Having tried various livestock farming models but finding them inconsistent and risky, in May 2025, Mr. Le Truong Luu decided to switch to breeding striped mink at his nearly 6-hectare farm in the hilly area of Tram Bang village, Duc Tho commune.
Initially, he invested in 60 breeding mink sets with a total herd of 180 animals, including 60 males and 120 females, at a total cost of approximately 4.8 billion VND. To date, after more than a year of care, the model is showing positive signs, with 10 female minks having given birth to their first litter, and about 80 others currently pregnant and awaiting reproduction.

To acquire breeding techniques, Mr. Luu proactively sought information through books, newspapers, the internet, and directly visited many successful breeding models inside and outside the province to learn from their experiences. Thanks to proper care, his mink herd thrived, and the breeding rate was high.
According to Mr. Luu, striped ferrets are highly adaptable and less prone to disease if properly cared for. Their main food consists of bananas, ripe papayas, porridge, and tilapia, allowing for the utilization of readily available local resources and reducing investment costs.

The barns are designed to ensure coolness in the summer and warmth in the winter.
To ensure the mink herd thrives, he built a closed enclosure system covering approximately 1,000 m², designed to be well-ventilated in the summer and sheltered from drafts in the winter. The breeding areas are regularly cleaned to minimize disease outbreaks and create a stable living environment for the animals.
"Breeding minks requires a significant initial investment, but the economic returns are high. A breeding set consisting of one male and two females currently costs around 80 million VND. Minks breed twice a year, with 2-4 offspring per litter, so the potential for development is enormous," Mr. Luu shared.

Besides selling breeding stock, those that don't meet the standards are transferred to commercial farming. Currently, the price of commercially farmed striped mink ranges from 1.6 to 1.8 million VND/kg, with fairly stable demand.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Tieu, Chairwoman of the Farmers' Association of Duc Tho commune, assessed: "In the context of the locality focusing on developing the rural economy in a modern direction, Mr. Luu's model of breeding striped mink is a new direction with economic value and suitable to the local conditions."

Through a bold investment decision, Mr. Le Truong Luu has gradually transformed a barren hillside into a large-scale livestock farm. Not only does this provide income for his family, but the model also opens up new economic development opportunities for local people.
