Mr. Sam Van Chung, from Dom 2 village, Chau Phong commune, Quy Chau district, shared: “Every year, on September 2nd, the people of the Thai ethnic villages celebrate in a joyful and wholesome atmosphere. Early in the morning, we catch chickens, slaughter them, and in the middle of the day, we perform a ceremony to worship our ancestors and President Ho Chi Minh, praying for family harmony, children's good education, village prosperity, and especially for the country's flourishing…”

According to Mr. Chung, on Independence Day, villages and hamlets everywhere hold cultural and artistic activities, as well as sports events such as gong performances, folk dances, and drinking traditional rice wine.

In the border district of Kỳ Sơn, the Hmong community in the border region has a unique way of celebrating Independence Day, associated with a bullfighting festival.

According to Mr. Tho Ba Re, Vice Chairman of the Ky Son District People's Committee, the Mong people's Independence Day celebration lasts from August 29th to September 2nd. To celebrate Independence Day, the Mong people have been preparing for many days in advance.

“The Hmong people have chosen their most beautiful outfits. The boys wear headscarves, necklaces, and carry flutes on their shoulders, while the girls wear flowing skirts. People in the Hmong villages hang the national flag to celebrate National Day.”

"From remote villages, young men and women, students, and children flock to the central village to participate in games… This is also an opportunity for Ky Son district to showcase its unique traditional culture and attractive destination for tourists from near and far…," Mr. Re shared.

“This year, on Independence Day, we are happy, excited, and proud that the friendship between Vietnam and Laos is always cherished and nurtured; especially when you come to celebrate Independence Day with the officials, people, and police, military , and border guard forces in Na Loi commune.”

In Quy Hop district, from the afternoon of September 1st, many villages were bustling with preparations of fruits and offerings; slaughtering pigs, buying incense and flowers… to present at the altar of President Ho Chi Minh.

Ms. Vi Thi Tam from Chau Ly commune shared: “This year, the economic conditions of the people here are better, so we are celebrating Independence Day on a bigger scale. This is an opportunity for young and old alike to recall the meaning and glorious memories of our nation.”

According to Mr. Cao Duy Thai, Chairman of the People's Committee of Chau Ly commune, local people celebrate Independence Day with a song that originated during the first Independence Day celebration.

“Over time, generations of young and old, men and women, have memorized the lam song, and whenever honored guests visit or the village celebrates a festival, they all join together in singing it with the passionate love for the land and its people. Every time it is sung, that lam song evokes memories of the first Independence Day celebration in the Muong Choong countryside,” Mr. Thai shared.
