The Tay and Nung ethnic groups are striving to develop their economy.

Over the years, ethnic minority communities in general, and the Tay and Nung people in Da Teh commune (Lam Dong province) in particular, have always received the care and attention, both materially and spiritually, from the Party, the State, and the local authorities. At the same time, the people have strived to develop their economy, leading to a continuous improvement in their lives.

The Tay and Nung ethnic groups in Da Teh commune have found rabbit farming to be effective.

According to the People's Committee of Da Teh commune, the socio-economic development program for ethnic minority areas has always been given priority in implementation. Infrastructure and projects serving agricultural production and the livelihoods of ethnic minority communities have been prioritized for investment, contributing to improving the material and spiritual lives of the people. Political security and social order are basically stable, and the unity of ethnic groups has been strengthened. In particular, more than 1,000 Tay and Nung households currently living in the commune have stable lives, are actively developing their economy, preserving traditional cultural values, and the rural areas are flourishing day by day.

The once densely muddy land in Da Teh commune has become a rice-growing region, earning a place on Vietnam's rice map. The Tay and Nung people are grateful to the Party, the State, and the local government for their care and guidance in farming. Around the 1990s, the Tay and Nung people settled in Da Teh, facing hardships in the early days. Now, they are prosperous and well-off, with most rice cultivation done using machinery, and traders buying their produce directly from the fields.

Many farmers have become wealthy from their fields, such as the family of Mr. To Duc Vien (village 2) who grows glutinous rice, durian, and raises swiftlets. Mr. Trieu Van Tuong (village 3) has 5 hectares of glutinous rice and has converted his hillside land to durian cultivation. Hoang Van Lu (village 2) has a model of growing glutinous rice and durian on his hillside orchard.

Mr. To Duc Vien shared that in the past, the people faced difficulties, but now the economy is stable and developing. The people have also boldly implemented changes in the structure of crops and livestock. Specifically, converting some hilly land areas to grow durian and raise swiftlets has brought quite high economic efficiency to families.

Many farmers growing glutinous rice in the An Nhon fields say that growing it is quite "easy," with plows for tilling the land, seed sowing machines, and combine harvesters for bagging. Buying and selling is simple; on harvest day, they just point to their fields, the harvester quickly bags the rice, traders come to collect it, and they get paid. In short, the days of "the buffalo leading the plow" are over.

Comrade Nong Ngoc Thien, Secretary of the Party Branch of Hamlet 8A, said that most of the people in the hamlet are Tay and Nung ethnic minorities, with 280 households. They migrated from Cao Bang province to settle in Da Teh in the 1990s. Currently, the people in the hamlet have a prosperous life, with many households earning billions of dong thanks to farming and livestock breeding. About 50 households have converted their old cashew orchards to durian cultivation.

According to the latest statistics, the multidimensional poverty rate in Da Teh commune is still 121 households, accounting for 1.8%. Of these, the multidimensional poverty rate among ethnic minorities is 47 households, accounting for 2.1%. Therefore, in the coming period, the People's Committee of Da Teh commune will focus on disbursing funds from the national target program for 2025; continue to effectively implement the sustainable poverty reduction program, create conditions to help poor households engage in production and business, provide preferential loans, and mobilize social contributions to repair charitable houses for poor and disadvantaged households. Emphasis will be placed on vocational training for rural laborers and the poor, building model projects, guiding the application of advanced technologies for poor and near-poor households to operate effectively; and encouraging people to develop services and small-scale handicraft industries to create local jobs.

Continue implementing the socio-economic development program for ethnic minority areas, focusing on investing in essential infrastructure to serve the production and lives of the people in these regions. At the same time, pay attention to preserving and promoting the valuable traditional cultures of these ethnic groups.

In Da Teh commune, there are 2,317 households of ethnic minorities with over 10,300 people, accounting for 33.62% of the total population of the commune. Of these, the Tay people have 1,004 households/4,565 people, and the Nung people have 889 households/4,078 people.
