Traces of ancient Vietnamese civilization
According to the "Quang Binh Gazetteer," during the Van Lang-Au Lac period, Quang Binh belonged to the Viet Thuong region, one of the 15 regions of the Van Lang state under the Hung Kings. This area had favorable conditions for ancient people to live, develop wet rice agriculture , and various handicrafts. Valuable archaeological artifacts, currently preserved at the Provincial Museum, represent the Dong Son culture in Quang Binh. These artifacts, found in many locations along the Quang Binh coastline, prove that the ancient Vietnamese people here possessed a brilliantly developed civilization, no less advanced than that of the Red River Delta or the Ma River Delta.
Over thousands of years, artifacts such as bronze drums and bronze vessels have remained intact with their unique patterns, bearing witness to the prosperity and resilient spirit of the ancient inhabitants.

Furthermore, findings from archaeological sites like Bau Tro also show that the people of Quang Binh had a rich cultural life from an early age. They knew how to make pottery, use polished stone tools, and had a belief in ancestor worship. These pieces of evidence confirm the remarkable development of ancient inhabitants and prove that from the time of the Hung Kings, Quang Binh was an indispensable part of the nation's historical flow.
Dr. Nguyen Khac Thai stated: “During the Van Lang period, Quang Binh was not only a geographically important region but also played a strategic role in protecting the southern border of the nation. This land was considered a solid shield, preventing invasions from the South and contributing to the stability of the Van Lang state. At the same time, it was also the starting point for the interaction, enrichment, and spread of Vietnamese culture southward, laying the foundation for the long-term development of the nation.”
Upholding the spirit of Hung Vuong
According to Ms. Tran Thi Tuyet Nhung, a lecturer at Quang Binh University, the "land of Lao winds and white sands" of Quang Binh has long left a strong mark on the nation's history with its patriotic, steadfast, and indomitable spirit. From the perspective of the Hung Kings, the people of Quang Binh throughout history have always clearly demonstrated their self-reliance, self-strength, and willingness to sacrifice for their homeland and country. During the feudal period, Quang Binh was an important border region, closely associated with the expansion of Dai Viet's territory. During the Trinh-Nguyen conflict, the people of Quang Binh both reclaimed land and steadfastly defended it, contributing to stability and territorial expansion.
“During the feudal period, Quang Binh was a borderland and a place that fostered the unwavering and indomitable spirit of its people. For hundreds of years, the people of Quang Binh have always demonstrated self-reliance and self-strength, protecting their homeland during turbulent periods of history,” affirmed Master Tran Thi Tuyet Nhung.

During the resistance against the French, the people of Quang Binh both fought and contributed manpower and resources to the revolution. During the war against the Americans, Quang Binh became the "front line of the North," a crucial area on the vital supply route to the Southern battlefield. Despite enduring countless bombings and shelling from the invading enemy, the people of Quang Binh remained steadfast, continuing production and fighting. Historical landmarks such as Long Dai ferry terminal, the cave of the Eight Youth Volunteers, and the 20th Victory Road have become symbols of the indomitable spirit, fighting prowess, and victory over the enemy of the people and soldiers of this "Two Excellences" homeland.
Today, the spirit of Hung Vuong is still strongly reflected in the construction and development of the homeland. The people of Quang Binh are maximizing the advantages of the sea, forests, and tourism to develop the economy. Fishing and aquaculture are becoming increasingly modern. Beach tourism and cave exploration tourism are helping Quang Binh become a bright spot on the Vietnamese tourism map. The young generation of Quang Binh today is also contributing to the glory of their homeland in many fields, from science and technology to culture and sports. Young talents in fields such as education, scientific research, sports, and art are continuously achieving proud accomplishments, further affirming the studious, creative, and resilient spirit of this land.
Continuing the legacy of the past, the Hung King spirit of the people of Quang Binh continues to shine brightly in the present day. Despite facing many difficulties, the people of Quang Binh remain united, creative, and constantly striving for progress.

Every year on the 10th day of the 3rd lunar month, the people of Thuan Bai and Tho Ngoa villages (Quang Thuan ward, Ba Don town) eagerly prepare for their traditional village festival. For the people of this land with a tradition of nearly 500 years, the village festival is an occasion to pray for favorable weather, abundant harvests, and to perform rituals honoring the merits of the Hung Kings. This is not only an opportunity for people to express their reverence but also a chance for the younger generation to learn more about history and the noble moral values of the nation.
Hung Kings Commemoration Day, celebrated on the 10th day of the 3rd lunar month, is an occasion for every Vietnamese person to honor historical traditions and express profound gratitude to the Hung Kings. Cultural activities and festivals take place throughout the country, aiming to remember our origins and inspire the nation's spirit of progress.
Given the profound significance of these traditional festivals, maintaining and promoting national cultural values will contribute to the development of the homeland. To ensure the enduring spirit of Hung Vuong, alongside sustainable economic development, preserving and promoting national cultural identity should be prioritized and become an important task in the construction and development of the homeland. Cultural and religious activities should not be limited to rituals and ceremonies but should be combined with educational programs, cultural tourism, and arts, aiming to create sustainable economic values while raising awareness of the role of culture in contemporary life. Quang Binh, with its rich cultural tourism potential, can further exploit these values to attract tourists, generate revenue from cultural tourism, contribute to local economic development, and preserve invaluable heritage.
From the Văn Lang-Âu Lạc era to the present day, Quảng Bình has always been a land steeped in a glorious historical current, imbued with a tradition of patriotism and a spirit of self-reliance and self-improvement. It is thanks to this spirit that the people of Quảng Bình have overcome countless ups and downs and hardships to build and develop their homeland. Preserving and promoting the spirit of the Hùng Kings is the way for Quảng Bình to maintain and continue to develop, affirming its position in the overall development of the nation.
