Comrade Vu Viet Truong was elected to the position of Chairman of the Lao Cai Provincial Red Cross Society.

On the afternoon of June 16th, the Lao Cai Provincial Red Cross Society held its 4th Executive Committee Meeting for the 2022-2027 term. The meeting included the election of additional members to the Executive Committee, the Standing Committee, and the position of President of the Lao Cai Provincial Red Cross Society for the 7th term (2022-2027); a review of the Society's work and Red Cross activities during the first six months of the year; the implementation of tasks for the last six months; and a summary of the 2023 Humanitarian Month.

Attending the conference were Ms. Giang Thi Dung, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; and leaders of several provincial departments and agencies.

The conference held elections to fill vacancies in the Executive Committee, Standing Committee, and the position of President of the Lao Cai Provincial Red Cross Society, 7th term, 2022-2027. Mr. Vu Viet Truong was elected as President of the Lao Cai Provincial Red Cross Society, 7th term, 2022-2027. Prior to being elected President of the Provincial Red Cross Society, Mr. Vu Viet Truong was the Vice President of the Lao Cai Provincial Union of Science and Technology Associations.

According to the report presented at the Conference, in the first six months of 2023, the Red Cross branches at all levels in the province effectively advised the Party committees and government on directing and organizing key activities such as: the "Compassionate Tet" movement, the "Humanitarian Month" movement, the "Each organization, each individual linked to a humanitarian cause" campaign; the "Nutrition for poor and disabled children" program; the "Good people, good deeds - working together to build a compassionate community" movement; voluntary blood donation campaigns; and humanitarian relief activities… In particular, livelihood support activities for poor households and those in difficult circumstances have become increasingly practical and effective, attracting the participation of more and more organizations, philanthropists, and people from all walks of life, providing timely assistance to those in difficult circumstances to improve their lives, contributing to the implementation of the province's social security policy. The total value of humanitarian activities in the province during the first six months reached 24.237 billion VND, providing assistance to over 65,628 beneficiaries.

In keeping with the spirit of international humanitarianism, the Provincial Red Cross Society mobilized its officers, soldiers, members, union members, businesses, entrepreneurs, production and business households, philanthropists, and people throughout the province to contribute 2.5 billion VND to help the people of Türkiye and Syria overcome the consequences of the earthquake.

At the conference, delegates also spent considerable time discussing the difficulties and obstacles in the work of the Association and the Red Cross movement during the first six months of the year; and proposed solutions for implementing tasks in the last six months of 2023.

Speaking at the conference, Ms. Giang Thi Dung congratulated Mr. Vu Viet Truong and the Provincial Red Cross Society on having a new Chairman. The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee also praised the achievements of the Provincial Red Cross Society in the first six months of the year. Ms. Giang Thi Dung requested that the new Chairman and all levels of the Red Cross Society continue to pay attention to and review the objectives of the Resolution, closely monitor the situation at the grassroots level to improve forecasting, plan mobilization and support, and be prepared for humanitarian situations… paying attention to mobilizing support and assistance for people and children in mountainous areas. At the same time, effectively implement training to improve the skills and abilities of staff in propaganda and mobilization. The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee expressed confidence that all levels of the Red Cross Society will build upon the achievements and continue to perform all assigned tasks well in the last six months of 2023 and in the following years.

At the conference, the Provincial Red Cross also held a farewell ceremony for comrades who are no longer serving on the Standing Committee and Executive Committee of the Provincial Red Cross, 7th term, 2022-2027 . (photo above).
