BHG - In the journey of building a New Rural Area (NTM), Dong Ha commune (Quan Ba) has been making a strong impression with strong changes in all areas. Although we know that in the near future, implementing the policy of rearranging commune-level administrative units, the name Dong Ha will only remain in memory, but the achievements that the Party Committee, government and people here have persistently cultivated will forever be a solid foundation, contributing to building an increasingly developed homeland.

Recognized as meeting the NTM standards since 2015, Dong Ha commune has constantly strived to improve the quality of the criteria. Returning to Dong Ha commune in the historic days of April, we felt that the rural appearance had many changes: solidly built houses, concrete roads stretching to every alley, the system of internal roads was hardened, convenient for production and trade. Today's achievements are the result of the strong leadership of the Party Committee, the government and the united efforts of the people.

As a purely agricultural commune, Dong Ha always identifies production development and income improvement as key factors. The Party Committee and the commune government focus on converting the crop and livestock structure to suit actual conditions, diversifying industries, and maximizing land potential.

Currently, the commune maintains 95 hectares of rice, 221 hectares of corn, 156 hectares of vegetables, 64 hectares of medicinal plants and 22 hectares of sugarcane; raises 1,470 buffaloes and cows; 2,265 pigs; 13,600 poultry; 140 goats, 480 beehives, and a fish pond area of 7 hectares. Economic models following the chain are increasingly developing, notably sugarcane cultivation with an average income of 110-115 million VND/ha; a model of breeding cows in Coc Ma village; a model of renovating mixed gardens, building model gardens for growing vegetables and fruit trees. Thanks to that, the average income reaches 43 million VND/person/year; the poverty rate has decreased to 11.69%. The whole commune has 701 households with 3,225 people, nearly 85% of which have achieved the title of Cultural Family.

In addition to agricultural production, Dong Ha commune promotes the development of small-scale industry, services, and tourism. H'Mong Village Resort and homestay models, accommodation services, food and beverage services, etc. have developed steadily, welcoming several thousand visitors each month, creating jobs for many local workers with an income of 8-10 million VND/person/month. Experiential activities such as mountain climbing, cycling, rowing, etc. also contribute to enhancing the value and quality of local tourism.

Rural infrastructure has been invested synchronously, 100% of commune, village and inter-village roads have been paved; schools, medical stations and cultural houses are spacious, practically serving people's lives. Preferential credit programs have been effectively implemented, with 526 households receiving loans, total outstanding loans of more than 35.19 billion VND, contributing to supporting production development and sustainable poverty reduction.

Along with economic development, the commune focuses on improving the quality of education, health care, and culture: 98% of school-age children go to school; 100% of people participate in health insurance; 100% of households use national grid electricity; over 95% of households use clean water; the commune has completed 12/19 advanced NTM criteria.

Comrade Lenh Phong Dien, Chairman of Dong Ha Commune People's Committee, shared: “The completion of 12 criteria for building advanced new rural areas is the result of the solidarity and determination of the entire political system and the consensus and joint efforts of the people of the whole commune. We identify that building new rural areas is a continuous process, without stopping, aiming to improve the quality of people's lives in a substantial and sustainable way. In the coming time, although the policy of merging commune-level administrative units will be implemented, Dong Ha will still focus all resources to continue developing the socio-economy, maintaining the achievements of building new rural areas, contributing to the overall development of the locality after the merger".
