BHG - In the journey of building new rural areas, Dong Ha commune (Quan Ba district) has been making a strong mark with significant changes in all fields. Although it is known that in the near future, with the implementation of the policy of reorganizing commune-level administrative units, the name Dong Ha will only remain in memory, the achievements that the Party committee, government, and people here have persistently cultivated will forever be a solid foundation, contributing to the increasingly developed homeland.

Recognized as a New Rural Area since 2015, Dong Ha commune has continuously strived to improve the quality of its criteria. Returning to Dong Ha commune during the historic month of April, we felt the rural landscape had undergone many changes: solidly built houses, concrete roads extending to every hamlet, and a system of hardened internal field roads, facilitating production and trade. Today's achievements are the result of decisive leadership from the Party committee and government, and the collective efforts of the people.

As a predominantly agricultural commune, Dong Ha has always identified developing production and increasing income as key factors. The commune's Party committee and government focus on transforming the structure of crops and livestock to suit local conditions, diversifying occupations, and maximizing the potential of the land.

Currently, the commune maintains 95 hectares of rice, 221 hectares of corn, 156 hectares of vegetables, 64 hectares of medicinal plants, and 22 hectares of sugarcane; livestock farming includes 1,470 buffaloes and cows; 2,265 pigs; 13,600 poultry; 140 goats, 480 beehives, and 7 hectares of fish ponds. Economic models based on value chains are increasingly developing, notably sugarcane cultivation with an average income of 110-115 million VND/hectare; a breeding cow farming model in Coc Ma village; and a model for renovating neglected gardens and establishing model gardens for growing vegetables and fruit trees. As a result, the average income reaches 43 million VND/person/year; the poverty rate has decreased to 11.69%. The entire commune has 701 households with 3,225 inhabitants, and nearly 85% of households have achieved the title of "Culturally Advanced Family".

Besides agricultural production, Dong Ha commune is promoting the development of small-scale industries, services, and tourism. The H'Mong Village resort, along with homestay models and accommodation and food services, is developing steadily, welcoming several thousand visitors each month and creating jobs for many local workers with incomes ranging from 8-10 million VND per person per month. Experiential activities such as mountain climbing, cycling, and boating also contribute to enhancing the value and quality of local tourism.

Rural infrastructure has been invested in comprehensively, with 100% of main roads at the commune, village, and inter-village levels being paved; schools, health stations, and cultural centers are well-equipped, practically serving the lives of the people. Preferential credit programs have been implemented effectively, with 526 households receiving loans totaling over 35.19 billion VND, contributing to supporting production development and sustainable poverty reduction.

Alongside economic development, the commune focuses on improving the quality of education, healthcare, and culture: 98% of children of school age attend school; 100% of people participate in health insurance; 100% of households use the national power grid; over 95% of households use clean water; the commune has completed 12 out of 19 criteria for advanced new rural development.

Comrade Le Phong Dien, Chairman of the People's Committee of Dong Ha commune, shared: “The completion of the 12 criteria for building advanced new rural areas is the result of the unity and high determination of the entire political system and the solidarity and joint efforts of the people of the whole commune. We determined that building new rural areas is a continuous process with no end point, aiming to improve the quality of life of the people in a substantive and sustainable way. In the coming time, although the policy of merging commune-level administrative units will be implemented, Dong Ha will still focus all resources to continue developing socio-economic aspects, maintaining the achievements of building new rural areas, and contributing to the overall development of the locality after the merger.”
