In March 2023, Ms. Trieu Thi Nien's family in Bang Anh village, Tan Dan commune (Ha Long city) borrowed 70 million VND from the Farmers' Support Fund to develop a commercial chicken farming model. From this model, after 2 years, Ms. Nien's family now has a chicken farm with a scale of raising more than 10,000 chickens per year. With an average selling price of about 200,000 VND/chicken, each year, her family also has an income of more than 200 million VND. Ms. Nien said: When the commune's Farmers' Association staff informed about the loan program from the Farmers' Support Fund, my family registered and was approved for a loan. Thanks to this capital, my family has invested in more breeding stock and animal feed. Currently, the family is planning to repay the loan.
Along with creating conditions for capital, the Farmers' Association at all levels also guides members and farmers who are ethnic minorities on the process and techniques of caring for plants and animals so that economic models can be effective; such as the family of Mr. Be Van Ly, Hong Phong village, Phong Du commune (Tien Yen district). In the process of developing the Tien Yen chicken farming model, he was guided by the District Farmers' Association on the process of caring for chickens in the direction of using natural food, combined with grazing in gardens and hills to improve the output quality of the products. Thanks to that, his family's chickens are always prioritized by traders when sold and have sustainable output. Currently, each year he sells about 10,000 chickens, earning an income of 350-500 million VND.
In particular, the Association at all levels also accompanies people in disadvantaged areas in promoting local strengths to develop economic models and improve income. Through the encouragement of the Commune Farmers' Association, the family of Ms. Tran Thi Hanh, Tan Truc Tung village, Quang An commune (Dam Ha district) has boldly developed the forestry seedling nursery business. Notably, the Commune Farmers' Association also guided her family to connect with households in the same profession to establish cooperatives to share experiences, sources of supply, and customers. Currently, her family has a nursery with a capacity to supply more than 500,000 seedlings per year. With a selling price of about 800 VND/tree, in the first forest planting season this year, her family also earned 160 million VND.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Duong, Vice Chairman of the Provincial Farmers' Association: In addition to focusing on improving income, Farmers' Associations at all levels have guided and supported farmers in ethnic minority areas to develop the economy in association with building cultural life, preserving and promoting national cultural identity, maintaining political security, social order and safety in the area. Organizing propaganda, education and dissemination of laws to improve legal understanding for members and farmers in ethnic minority, mountainous and border areas. In the past 5 years, the Associations at all levels have organized 11 conferences to disseminate policies and laws with the participation of 610 members; 99 legal consultation sessions, providing legal aid to 4,705 members and farmers; distributing 500 self-compiled documents, 100 legal books to Farmers' Clubs with the law, 3,000 leaflets and legal brochures with many meaningful contents.
The participation of HND levels has contributed to improving the quality of life for people in ethnic minority, mountainous and border areas of the province. By the end of 2024, the average income in this area will reach over 83.79 million VND/person/year. 100% of ethnic minority households use clean water and have guaranteed transmission infrastructure to watch television and listen to national and Quang Ninh provincial radio stations. 32/63 communes in ethnic minority, mountainous, border and island areas meet advanced NTM standards and 13/63 communes meet model NTM standards.
