| The project supporting cattle breeding has helped people in Suoi Ty village gain additional livelihoods. |
Resources are delivered to meet the right needs.
As a particularly disadvantaged mountainous village with a fragmented terrain and difficult transportation, the lives of the people in Suoi Ty village previously depended mainly on small-scale agricultural production. With funding from the National Target Program for Sustainable Poverty Reduction in 2025, Suoi Ty village has implemented two projects supporting agricultural production development, specifically the breeding of dairy cows. This model was unanimously chosen by the villagers, as it is suitable for the local natural conditions and production practices.
Two projects were implemented with a total budget of over 1.15 billion VND. Of this, the state budget contributed over 1.08 billion VND, and the people contributed 64 million VND to repair barns, plant grass, and purchase veterinary medicine. Notably, all participating households were poor households and ethnic minority households. The first project provided 40 cows to 20 households; the second project provided 16 cows to 16 poor households.
Comrade Hau Mi Cho, Deputy Head of the Economic Department of Thang Mo Commune, said that to ensure the support funds reach the right recipients, meet the right needs, and are effective, both projects are implemented according to a strict process from the registration of people's needs, appraisal, approval to acceptance and disbursement. After the project is approved, households proactively choose and purchase breeding stock according to the prescribed standards. Then, the commune organizes inspection and acceptance of the quality of the cattle herd before disbursing the support funds. This approach ensures transparency in project implementation and enhances the responsibility of the people, contributing to bringing poverty reduction resources to the right needs and maximizing their effectiveness.

These days, walking through the center of Suoi Ty village, Thang Mo commune, the sight of sturdy livestock pens and lush green pastures has become familiar. Village head Giang Nha Khe excitedly shared that Suoi Ty village currently has 63 households, including 25 poor households and 20 near-poor households. Previously, people mainly raised livestock on a small scale, without large animals. In addition, many households lacked capital and production resources, facing many difficulties in economic development. Thanks to the support of the breeding cow project, households have gained valuable assets to develop production. The breeding cows, provided to the right recipients and meeting their production needs, are helping people create additional livelihoods and opening up opportunities for sustainable poverty alleviation.
Inspiring the will to strive for success.
Besides providing resources for production development, the cattle breeding support projects in Suoi Ty village have also created positive changes in the awareness of the people. From lacking capital and production materials and relying on government support, many households have become more proactive in investing in barns, planting grass, learning livestock farming techniques, and developing family economic development plans. This is also an important foundation for poverty reduction efforts in the village to gradually become more in-depth and sustainable.

As one of the households benefiting from the project, Ms. Ho Thi Cay's family consists of 8 members across 3 generations. Previously, the family faced many economic difficulties, relying solely on a small corn field for economic development. Since receiving support in the form of 2 breeding cows, the family has proactively invested in building sturdy barns, planting nearly 1 hectare of grass as feed for the herd, and maintaining pig farming to increase income.
Ms. Cay excitedly shared: “With the support from the program and the efforts of my family, I hope the cattle herd will reproduce well, gradually increasing in size in the coming years to create a stable source of income and escape poverty. Not only did we receive support with breeding stock, but we also received guidance on livestock farming techniques, which gradually changed our awareness. My family has become more proactive in labor and production, boldly investing in barns, planting grass, and developing a long-term economic development plan.”
Not only have the projects supporting cattle breeding changed people's perceptions, but they are also showing initial positive signs. Since the project's implementation, the total cattle herd in Suoi Ty village has increased to over 100 head. Notably, the family of Mr. Giang Cho Po, a poor household with 4 members, welcomed their first calf in April 2026 from the supported herd. Similarly, the Giang Mi Ly household, with 5 members, has escaped poverty after receiving support from the project. These are the first "sweet fruits" from poverty reduction funds, further boosting the confidence of households in the village on their journey to achieving a stable life.
Thanks to livelihood projects tailored to local conditions, resources from the National Target Program for Sustainable Poverty Reduction are proving effective in Suoi Ty. With people having more means of production, equipped with knowledge, and becoming more proactive in economic development, the goal of poverty reduction is no longer just an expectation but is gradually becoming a reality.
