Yen exchange rate trend forecast

The Japanese yen held at 157 per dollar and is set to fall nearly 1% this week as investors reacted to data showing domestic inflation slowed in April.

Japan's core inflation rate fell to 2.2% in April from 2.6% in March due to softer food inflation, in line with expectations. The headline rate also fell to 2.5% in April from 2.7% in March, down for the second straight month.

Outside, the Yen came under pressure from a rising Dollar as stronger-than-expected US economic data raised concerns that the US Federal Reserve (FED) could delay interest rate cuts.

The latest FOMC minutes also showed policymakers are concerned about persistent inflation and some members expressed a willingness to tighten policy further if inflation rises.

On the other hand, markets are betting that the Bank of Japan (BoJ) will be slow to normalize monetary policy and raise interest rates, keeping the Yen attractive in trading.
