Quang Ngai province develops industry in depth, taking Dung Quat Economic Zone as the core, promoting linkages with economic zones and industrial clusters to create breakthroughs.

Towards the national energy center

After more than 20 years of formation and development, Dung Quat Economic Zone has become the core of industrial development in Quang Ngai province and the Central region.

According to the Master Plan for the construction of Dung Quat Economic Zone , Quang Ngai province until 2045 approved by the Prime Minister, Dung Quat Economic Zone has an area of ​​45,332 hectares. This is a multi-sector, multi-sector economic zone including: Industry - trade - services - tourism - urban and agriculture, forestry and fishery.

In particular, the focus is on the petrochemical industry, chemical industry and heavy industry with key industries: Steel rolling, shipbuilding and other industries associated with deep-water port exploitation.

Dung Quat Economic Zone currently has 212 operating projects, creating jobs for more than 76,000 workers, of which Quang Ngai workers account for 89%.

During the 2010 - 2024 period, Dung Quat Economic Zone contributed over VND 282,000 billion to the state budget, accounting for about 80% of the total budget revenue of the entire Quang Ngai province (old).

Many key projects have made their mark on Quang Ngai industry such as : Dung Quat Oil Refinery, Hoa Phat Dung Quat Iron and Steel Production Complex, Doosan Vina, VSIP Quang Ngai... These are important driving forces to create revenue, jobs and promote the formation of an ecosystem of supporting industries, logistics, and auxiliary services for the province.

Director of the Department of Industry and Trade Nguyen Thanh Man affirmed: "After the merger, Quang Ngai province determined that production in Dung Quat Economic Zone plays a key role in industrial development" . This will be realized through major projects: Upgrading and expanding Dung Quat Oil Refinery, Hoa Phat Dung Quat 2 Iron and Steel Production Complex, Dung Quat I, II, III Combined Gas Turbine Power Plant projects.

Promote competitive advantage

After the merger, the room for industrial development in Quang Ngai has been expanded, not only relying on Dung Quat Economic Zone but also thanks to the synchronous development of industrial parks and industrial cluster systems .

Dung Quat seaport has many advantages to develop into a gateway for import and export of goods for the Central Highlands region. With its location near the East-West economic corridor, deep water channels that can accommodate large vessels up to 200,000 DWT, a large anchorage area and a developing system of specialized and general wharfs; Dung Quat port has been playing an increasingly important role in the supply chain of the Central Highlands region.

Promote the competitive advantages of each economic zone, industrial park, and industrial cluster to exploit the new industrial potential of Quang Ngai.

According to Mr. Nguyen Hai Truong, Quang Ngai province aims to form a regional logistics center, connecting Dung Quat seaport with Chu Lai international airport (Quang Nam). From there, a complete supply chain will be built, meeting the strict requirements of international investors.

The synchronous development of Dung Quat seaport and Chu Lai airport helps reduce logistics costs , improve competitiveness, and attract large corporations in the fields of industry, energy, and import-export to invest in the Dung Quat - Chu Lai - Central Highlands area.

In addition to Dung Quat, the Bo Y International Border Gate Economic Zone (bordering Laos and Cambodia) is also oriented to become the economic center of the Vietnam - Laos - Cambodia development triangle. This will be a trade gateway, logistics service center and cross-border investment, expected to reach about 330,000 vehicles and passengers passing through each year and an export turnover of 1.8 billion USD .

In parallel, the industrial cluster system in the area also plays an important role in rural industrial development. Some industrial clusters operate effectively such as Quan Lat, Thach Tru, La Ha with an occupancy rate of 90 - 95% , attracting hundreds of projects and creating jobs for thousands of rural workers.

The key point in developing Quang Ngai industry after the merger is to promote individual strengths but still promote linkages to create a closed value chain.

To continue promoting the advantages and effectiveness of this development model, the Department of Industry and Trade plans to prioritize the reorganization of raw material areas in the coming time, forming concentrated production areas to serve the deep processing industry; prioritize the development of organic agriculture, forestry and medicinal herbs (Ngoc Linh ginseng, rubber, coffee, cassava, fruit trees, vegetables, cold-climate flowers). This will be the main source of raw materials for industrial parks and industrial clusters in the East to develop large-scale processing industry.

The province also focuses on encouraging enterprises to apply modern technology, innovate, invest in deep processing to increase product value and expand export markets. Strengthen the connection between processing enterprises in Eastern Quang Ngai with enterprises, cooperatives, cooperatives and households in Western Quang Ngai, forming a chain from raw material production - processing - consumption, contributing to increasing product value and expanding export markets. From there, promoting the development of both regions.
