Sa Pa terraced fields national monument is located in Muong Hoa valley, now in Ta Van commune.

Terraced fields are found in many places in the Northwest, but the Sa Pa National Monument of Terraced Fields has long been a familiar destination, with easy access to developed infrastructure and tourism services.
This season, the villages in Cat Cat, Ta Van, Lao Chai... are all shimmering and gentle with the golden color of ripe rice and autumn sunshine. Interspersed with that golden color are small, pretty wooden roofs, hidden behind the misty mist, creating a scene that is both majestic and poetic.
Young person Ha Van Anh - tourist from Hanoi shared:
Our group chose to go to Ta Van during the rice harvest season because it was convenient to travel to other tourist attractions in the old town of Sa Pa. Thus, the group could both experience the rice harvest season and experience a variety of additional services from restaurants, cafes, accommodation facilities, entertainment venues, etc. in neighboring wards and communes.
Indeed, the old town of Sa Pa has formed and developed a fairly complete tourism ecosystem. In Sa Pa ward and some neighboring communes with tourism strengths, there are nearly 800 accommodation establishments, capable of serving up to 30,000 people/night; over 3,700 establishments providing food, gifts, entertainment, etc.

Therefore, on the journey to discover the golden season, tourists have countless choices with a diverse accommodation system from homestays to hotels, resorts to restaurants, check-in points, and beautiful cafes in any village.
Located on a land area of up to 2,000 m2 , Chi Pau Coffee in Pho village, Ta Van commune, invested and built by Mr. Duong Quoc Hieu, is a destination on that journey. With a view embracing the immense rice fields and a friendly way of doing things, preserving the landscape, Chi Pau Coffee is loved by many tourists.
During the process of building the restaurant, Mr. Hieu carefully calculated to minimize construction. The restaurant does not use reinforced concrete, only bamboo, wood, gravel... environmentally friendly materials, not affecting the surrounding ecosystem.
Mr. Hieu said: “Although we do business, we are aware of and appreciate the value of heritage. We often remind visitors not to step on the rice fields and not to litter the surrounding environment. I hope the image of the small coffee shop can contribute to spreading the beauty of Sa Pa terraced fields - a unique cultural feature that has long been associated with the people of the highlands.”
Because it is built in the middle of a rice field, this place not only brings cool air but also the light scent of ripe rice, creating a peaceful, relaxing feeling.
Coming to Sa Pa area in the ripe rice season, visitors not only simply admire the natural beauty but also immerse themselves in the vibrant festival atmosphere with many attractive entertainment areas such as Swing Sa Pa, Alpine Coaster Sa Pa mountain slide, O Quy Ho tourist area, conquer Fansipan peak with cable car and train to see Muong Hoa valley, Rong May glass bridge...

Experiences in this area are also highly interactive. Visitors can rent ethnic costumes, take check-in photos at famous locations or join professionally designed trekking tours.

Accommodation facilities not only provide accommodation but are also part of the tourist experience. Most homestays and hotels are designed with unique architecture, uniform decoration, and have a direct view of Muong Hoa valley. Tourists wake up with the first rays of sunlight through the leaves, watching the golden rice waves follow one after another. They also prepare local dishes and organize walking tours to explore the villages, helping tourists understand more about the local culture.
Mu Cang Chai terraced fields were ranked as a special national monument in 2019, located in the current area of two communes, Mu Cang Chai and Pung Luong.
If the experience in Sa Pa area is a symphony of hustle and bustle and diversity, then Mu Cang Chai area is a pure, melodious song. If Sa Pa brings a vibrant feeling, Mu Cang Chai conquers visitors with its peace and original, majestic beauty.

Coming to the Mu Cang Chai terraced fields national monument in the ripe rice season, visitors will be amazed by the endless "golden waves", stretching and winding like a soft silk strip across the mountainside. The air is fresh, with only the sound of the wind rustling through the ripe rice and the chirping of birds.
Here, to reach the beautiful rice fields, visitors must overcome winding and challenging mountain passes and can only use motorbikes or even walk. That journey is also part of the experience, helping visitors feel more clearly the majesty of nature, the authenticity of the land and people of the highlands.

Ms. Do Khanh Van (Hanoi) shared about her journey to Mu Cang Chai after a day wandering on small dirt roads, through many villages: I met Mong children playing on the open ground with dirty faces, worn-out clothes, and clear, innocent smiles. Some children were still shy, hiding behind their mothers, but their eyes sparkled with curiosity. I was also invited into the house of an elderly woman. She was sitting there meticulously embroidering each stitch on a piece of linen. She told me about the life of the Mong people, about the customs and practices that have been preserved for generations. Mu Cang Chai is so simple and warm!

In Mu Cang Chai area, community tourism is also mainly developed - where local people directly participate in tourism activities. Tourism facilities are also quite few, only more than 140 accommodation facilities and about 100 tourism service facilities.
Therefore, there are not many choices here but it offers an uncommercialized experience, keeping the rustic and sincere features. Homestays are often renovated traditional wooden houses, with a cozy and intimate space.
A Su Homestay is located at an altitude of 1,500m above sea level with a view of the valley of terraced fields in front. Thao A Su - owner of A Su homestay, Pung Luong commune - a young Mong man cherishes the dream of bringing his village to friends from all over the world.
A Su shared: The family's homestay is an old stilt house frame that was bought back, using the upper floor for guests to stay, and the lower floor for the kitchen and bar. All the decorations for the homestay are from local products such as brocade, bamboo, trees, wild peach blossoms... both saving costs and creating a cozy, friendly feeling for visitors to the house. I will try to bring visitors the best quality of service like a hotel at homestay prices.

Visitors to A Su homestay in particular and Mu Cang Chai in general can enjoy local dishes with the host family. The homestay owner often acts as a tour guide and a companion. They are proud to share about the customs of the ethnic group, about traditional festivals, about daily life, helping visitors have the most profound and authentic look at life here.
Mr. Nguyen Trung Quan - a tourist from Ho Chi Minh City shared: Mu Cang Chai is not a bustling tourist destination but contains genuine beauty, simple life and love of life, making anyone who comes here understand more about life and the value of simplicity.
Sa Pa and Mu Cang Chai terraced fields, each with its own beauty and way of doing tourism. Sa Pa area aims for convenience, diversity, excitement and peaceful, romantic moments, suitable for those who want to explore many aspects of Northwest tourism in one trip. Mu Cang Chai area is for those who love tranquility, want to find pristine beauty and connect deeply with indigenous culture.
Both places bring emotions when standing in front of the artistic masterpiece created by human labor and creativity. Whether it is a bustling symphony or a melodious song, the golden season of the Northwest always leaves an unforgettable impression in the heart of every visitor.
