Propaganda to ensure security of oil and gas projects, combat IUU exploitation

On the morning of October 2, in Long Hai commune (HCMC), the HCMC Border Guard coordinated with the Vietnam Oil and Gas Exploration and Production Corporation (PVEP) to organize a conference to propagate the security and safety of offshore oil and gas projects, combined with propaganda to prevent and combat illegal fishing (IUU).

The conference was attended by Colonel Nguyen Van Tien, member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee, Deputy Commissar of the Ho Chi Minh City Border Guard; representatives of PVEP and more than 200 fishermen and local boat owners.

The organizing committee distributed propaganda documents and leaflets with printed maps and coordinates of offshore oil and gas projects so that fishermen could easily identify them when operating at sea.

Here, fishermen were informed about the importance of offshore oil and gas projects, gas pipeline systems; security and safety threats in oil and gas exploration and exploitation activities; measures to prevent incidents and accidents; as well as legal regulations related to the safety corridor of oil and gas projects.

The conference also emphasized regulations on preventing and combating illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, especially new points in handling violations.

On this occasion, PVEP and the Ho Chi Minh City Border Guard presented 10 bicycles (worth about 30 million VND) to students who are children of fishermen in difficult circumstances; and also presented 5 gifts to outstanding fishermen who participated in protecting the security and safety of oil and gas projects at sea and preserving the sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland.
