Director of Infrastructure Board Dau An Phuc said that Xuyen Tam canal has a total length of 8.875 km, including the main route of 6.638 km and three branch routes of Cau Son, Binh Loi, Binh Trieu with a length of 2.237 km. The project is implemented in Gia Dinh, Binh Thanh, Binh Loi Trung and An Nhon wards with many important items: dredging the canal, building embankments to protect the banks, building a rainwater and wastewater drainage system, collecting wastewater to the treatment plant, and at the same time forming a traffic route and park on both sides of the canal.

Specifically, Package XL-01 is worth more than 1,160 billion VND, ranging from Nhieu Loc - Thi Nghe canal to Bui Dinh Tuy bridge, including Cau Son canal branch. The total construction length is about 2.94 km, constructed by Trungnam E&C. Package XL-02 is the largest construction package of the entire project, worth 1,210 billion VND.

Package 3 is expected to start construction in September 2026, so the two current packages need to be implemented urgently, taking advantage of the time before the rainy season to make up for the progress.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Bui Xuan Cuong emphasized the special significance of the project during the period when the city and the whole country are moving towards the 14th National Congress of Delegates.

According to comrade Bui Xuan Cuong, the two packages XL-01 and XL-02 are the largest construction packages of the entire project. The contract progress lasts until 2028, but the construction time must be shortened. Package 3 is expected to start in September 2026, so the two current packages need to be implemented urgently, taking advantage of the time before the rainy season to make up for the progress.

The project affects more than 2,200 households, and the city prioritizes promoting compensation and site clearance work.

Regarding investment capital, this year, the city has allocated 1,800 billion VND, however the disbursement level is still low. The city requires speeding up the construction progress and disbursement in the remaining time of the year.

Comrade Bui Xuan Cuong emphasized that the project not only aims to improve the water environment and drainage system, but also has multi-purposes, including traffic, landscape and urban technical infrastructure. When completed, the project will not only reduce prolonged flooding, treat pollution, improve environmental quality, create green spaces and community living spaces, increase urban value and people's quality of life, contributing to building Ho Chi Minh City into a green - clean - livable city.

The project demonstrates the government's determination and the community's consensus in developing a modern, civilized and sustainable city.

Once completed, the project will contribute to reducing flooding, improving the quality of the living environment, creating more public spaces and enhancing the ability to respond to climate change.
