Due to the mountainous terrain, many villages are located in areas at risk of landslides, so finding a safe shelter during the rainy season becomes an urgent issue for local people. Most schools and school sites are built in the center of villages and communes, with stable terrain, so there is little risk of landslides. During each flood, schools often become safe shelters for people.

In Phong Du Ha commune, Xuan Tam Kindergarten is a clear demonstration of the spirit of sharing and supporting the community. The school has 4 campuses located in the villages of Khe Trung, Ngan Vang, Khe Dom and Khe Lep.
During the recent flood from September 28 to 30, in Khe Trung village - where the main school is located - heavy rain caused the slope behind the houses to collapse, putting many households in danger.
Upon receiving the information, the school quickly opened its doors to welcome four households with 16 people, including the elderly and children, to take shelter. The households were arranged to stay in two classrooms with private bathrooms, full blankets, ensuring basic living conditions and safety.

Ms. Ban Thi Ton, one of the people who received support, emotionally shared: "My family and I are very grateful for the teachers' kindness when we were in a safe and warm room during an emergency. Without the school, we don't know how we would have managed during the flood."
Teacher Le Thi Huyen Trang, Principal of Xuan Tam Kindergarten, said: “The school always prepares classrooms to welcome people to take shelter if natural disasters occur. At the same time, we also send cadres, teachers and staff to support affected families, ensuring that no one is left behind during the flood season.”

Not only Phong Du Ha, in Bac Ha commune, San Sa Ho Kindergarten (belonging to Thai Giang Pho Kindergarten) also became a safe shelter for people of San Sa Ho village during the recent heavy rains.
Mr. Ma Seo Vu, Head of San Sa Ho village, recounted: "On the afternoon of September 29, heavy rain continued for a long time. Our village is 6 km from the commune center. The road was eroded in many sections, so it was very difficult to move out. Experience from the flood caused by storm No. 3 last year made us not dare to be subjective. Luckily, there was a kindergarten in the village - the only place where we could temporarily feel secure about safety - so the whole village went there to take refuge."

Although it only had 2 classrooms and a small kitchen, the school still welcomed and sheltered about 40 households with more than 140 people during the rainy night. The small rooms were not enough to accommodate everyone, so the children were given priority to sleep, while the adults stayed up all night in the rain. In the difficult times, the small school became the great hope of the whole village.
Teacher Nguyen Thi Kim Oanh, Principal of Thai Giang Pho Kindergarten, shared: "We sympathize with the people. In times when floods are becoming more and more complicated and unpredictable, ensuring the safety of people, especially children, is always the top priority."

Xuan Tam Kindergarten and San Sa Ho Kindergarten are just two of many schools in the mountainous areas of Lao Cai that have actively and proactively created safe shelters for people during floods. Schools are not only places to teach, but also temporary homes for people in times of trouble. The initiative and dedication of teachers help protect people's lives and property and spread warm humanity during natural disasters.
