Ao Ba Om is located in Ward 8, Tra Vinh City (former Tra Vinh Province), now Nguyet Hoa Ward (Vinh Long Province). This is a famous scenic spot that attracts many people to visit and take photos, closely associated with the spiritual and cultural life of the Khmer people. In 1994, Ao Ba Om was ranked as a national historical and cultural relic, a type of scenic relic.

Ao Ba Om has an area of over 300 hectares, including three main parts: the pond, the bank and the surrounding ancient forest. The freshwater pond in the center of the scenic spot has an area of 15 hectares, about 2 meters deep. The special feature of Ao Ba Om is its square shape, surrounded by hundreds of green ancient trees, creating an extremely cool and relaxing space.

According to historical records, Ao Ba Om is an ancient irrigation lake, dug and built by local residents many centuries ago to store rainwater, ensuring a source of fresh water for people's daily life and agricultural cultivation.

The pond surface is approximately 100 hectares wide, with year-round fresh water, creating an ideal environment for many species of aquatic animals and plants such as shrimp, fish, frogs, toads; lotus, water lilies... to thrive and grow.

The outermost area is a well-preserved primeval forest, 30-100m wide and more than 2km long, with thousands of endemic plants of the sand dunes, including nearly 500 hundred-year-old oil trees.

Over time, the effects of weather and sand are washed away, leaving behind ancient tree stumps with very strange shapes, stimulating the curiosity of visitors from near and far.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Ngan (tourist from Can Tho ) said that the ancient trees in Ao Ba Om are very large, many trees have roots protruding above the ground so many people often stand or sit next to the tree roots to take pictures. This is also a special tourist attraction of the old Tra Vinh province. Whenever Ms. Ngan goes on a trip or works, if she has time, she stops by to take pictures.

With the number of perennial trees surrounding and shading the entire pond area, many people compare this to a "Da Lat in the middle of the plains".
