8 people died and missing after storm Kalmaegi, Dak Lak suffered 1,900 billion VND in damage

Quick statistics as of noon on November 7, storm Kalmaegi (storm number 13) left 8 people dead and missing, 7 people injured, nearly 2,900 houses had their roofs blown off or damaged, and 54,000 aquaculture cages were damaged.

According to a quick report at 11:00 a.m. on November 7 from the Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention ( Ministry of Agriculture and Environment ), storm Kalmaegi killed 5 people, left 3 missing and injured 7 people.

At home, 61 houses in Gia Lai and Dak Lak collapsed, nearly 2,900 houses in Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Quang Ngai had their roofs blown off and damaged. More than 3,700 houses were flooded, of which 3,000 were in the coastal commune of Hoai Nhon Bac (Gia Lai), the rest were in Dak Lak.

12 boats were sunk by waves, 54,000 aquaculture cages in Dak Lak were damaged.

Many livestock, poultry and many areas of rice, crops and trees damaged are being counted.

The storm also caused 28 110kV power grid incidents, with widespread power outages in Gia Lai. It is estimated that in the provinces from Da Nang to Khanh Hoa, about 1.6 million customers lost power (about 315,000 houses have now been restored).

Regarding traffic, in Gia Lai, Dak Po To bridge (Truong Son Dong road) was swept away by flood water at the bridgehead, about 25m long and about 8m deep.

In Dak Lak, National Highway 19C from Long Thach to Long Nguyen was deeply flooded and blocked. Provincial Road 641 has two sections from La Hai iron bridge across Song Co and the section from Dong Xuan to Tuy An Bac was blocked due to deep flooding.

Roads in Quang Ngai that suffered landslides and fallen trees have been cleared and reopened to traffic. The Da Nang - Quang Ngai Expressway has reopened since 5am this morning.

Economic damage in Dak Lak alone is 1,900 billion VND.

Localities are continuing to review, compile damage data and organize remediation.

Storm No. 13 caused heavy damage in Gia Lai, many places lost power and houses collapsed.

This morning, Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc signed Decision No. 2451/QD-TTg, providing emergency aid of VND80 billion to the three provinces of Quang Ngai, Gia Lai and Dak Lak to overcome the consequences caused by storm Kalmaegi.

This amount is taken from the central budget reserve in 2025 for 3 localities to overcome damage caused by floods and stabilize people's lives soon after the floods. Of which, 20 billion VND will be supported for Quang Ngai province, 30 billion VND for Gia Lai province and 30 billion VND for Dak Lak province.
