Further promoting Vietnam - Cuba cooperation in the field of sports

On the morning of November 6, in Hanoi, Director of the Vietnam Sports Administration Nguyen Danh Hoang Viet had a meeting and worked with Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam Rogelio Polanco Fuentes.

At the beginning of the meeting, Director Nguyen Danh Hoang Viet wished Ambassador Rogelio Polanco Fuentes a successful and effective term in Vietnam. He also expressed his hope that the Ambassador would spend more time on the cooperation between the two sides, especially in the field of sports.

Thanking Director Nguyen Danh Hoang Viet for taking the time to welcome him, Ambassador Rogelio Polanco Fuentes emphasized that the proposal from the Director is an honor and also a responsibility to further strengthen the cooperation between the two sides in the field of Sports . Sharing his views, Ambassador Rogelio Polanco Fuentes affirmed that the cooperation between Cuba and Vietnam is a strong and comprehensive relationship in which the Sports of the two countries have actively contributed.

According to Ambassador Rogelio Polanco Fuentes, he visited Vietnam 30 years ago. The second time Ambassador Rogelio Polanco Fuentes visited Vietnam was in 1996 to prepare for the World Youth and Student Festival in Cuba in 1997. The Ambassador was still very impressed with the large number of young people and students that Vietnam sent to attend the event at that time, many of whom have grown up and held important positions in the Government.

At the reception, the Ambassador also expressed his admiration for the Vietnamese people's passionate love for sports. He could feel that love every time he saw the jubilant crowds on the streets when Vietnamese sports won. Ambassador Rogelio Polanco Fuentes said that every victory in sports represents culture and national pride. Every time an athlete of a country receives a major award, stands on the podium, sings the national anthem under the national flag, it is a proud moment for the whole country. Sports is a message of peace sent to the whole world!

Therefore, returning to Vietnam this time, Ambassador Rogelio Polanco Fuentes expressed his desire to promote and further enhance the effectiveness of cooperation in the field of Sports between the two countries, in order to fully exploit the potentials that both sides have left untapped.

The reception took place on the morning of November 6 at the Vietnam Sports Administration.

Accordingly, Ambassador Rogelio Polanco Fuentes hopes that the two sides can sign a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of Sports. Along with that is coordination in preparation for major sporting events, including the Olympic Games.

Appreciating the recent achievements of some Vietnamese sports such as shooting and weightlifting, Ambassador Rogelio Polanco Fuentes hopes that Cuban athletes will have the opportunity to come to Vietnam to enjoy training facilities as well as exchange and share experiences with Vietnamese athletes.

Cuba is also willing to introduce experts to support Vietnam in some of its strong sports; applying scientific and technological advances, and exchanging lecturers and students between sports schools are also issues that Ambassador Rogelio Polanco Fuentes is interested in and wishes to promote.

Thanking Ambassador Rogelio Polanco Fuentes for his positive comments on Vietnamese Sports in recent times, Director Nguyen Danh Hoang Viet emphasized: The Vietnamese people always appreciate the sentiments of the Cuban people throughout the historical journey. As for the Sports sector, we have always received the attention of the Party and the State; investment in facilities as well as remuneration and policies for those working in the sports sector. On that basis, the sports movement among the people has been promoted...

The Director specifically mentioned that, in recent years, many Vietnamese students have had the opportunity to study and exchange in Cuba, then return to work and contribute to the domestic Sports industry.

Fully agreeing with Ambassador Rogelio Polanco Fuentes's view on creating conditions for coaches and athletes of the two countries to train, practice, and compete to promote strong sports, Director Nguyen Danh Hoang Viet also directly invited Cuba to participate in a number of international sports tournaments to be held in Vietnam in the near future.

Appreciating the development of Cuban medicine, Director Nguyen Danh Hoang Viet proposed promoting exchanges and sharing of achievements in medicine and sports science.

Further promoting Vietnam - Cuba cooperation in the field of sports

2026 is a busy year for Vietnam Sports Administration with 7 Congresses that Vietnam will participate in and organize. Among them are two major Congresses: ASIAD and the National Sports Congress. Director Nguyen Danh Hoang Viet hopes: The two sides will coordinate to achieve important achievements. The Director assigned the International Cooperation Department (Office of the Department) to coordinate with the Cuban Embassy to develop a plan and roadmap for cooperation in the coming time.
