Nguyen Thi Ngoc (born in 2002) contributed 3 gold medals in the 400m, 4x400m relay, and 4x400m mixed relay events, making a significant contribution to the overall success of Vietnamese athletics at this SEA Games.
On the afternoon of December 12th, at the Suphachalasai Stadium, Nguyen Thi Ngoc created one of the most unforgettable moments of her career by winning the gold medal in the women's 400m event. This was Ngoc's first individual gold medal at a SEA Games and also her first time competing in the women's 400m. Ngoc's opening gold medal provided great motivation for her to win two more gold medals, becoming a highlight for Vietnamese athletics at the 33rd SEA Games.
Athlete Nguyen Thi Ngoc shared: “Although I finished first, I still have a little regret because my time of 52.74 seconds is not my best performance. Nevertheless, I am very happy and delighted to have won the gold medal. I consider this medal a gift I want to give to my family, to Coach Nguyen Thuan, the head coach of Ha Tinh athletics, and especially to Coach Nguyen Thi Bac, the coach of the Vietnamese national athletics team. She has guided me a lot since I joined the national team.”
Few people know that, to win this gold medal, Nguyen Thi Ngoc went through a treatment process for an injury sustained during training. The female athlete said that in September, while training and preparing for the 33rd SEA Games, she unfortunately suffered an ankle injury and had to take more than half a month off from competition. Wearing the national team jersey, she won many medals in the women's 4x400m relay, most notably the gold medal in the women's 4x400m relay at the 32nd SEA Games, and the gold medal in the women's 4x400m relay at the 2023 Asian Athletics Championships…
