Bringing cooperation between the Czech Republic and the Czech Republic

(CPV) - President Petr Pavel warmly welcomed Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan on her official visit to the Czech Republic; he assessed that the traditional friendly relations and long-standing cooperation between the two countries are developing positively in many fields.

On the afternoon of November 14, 2024, in Prague, during her official visit to the Czech Republic, Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan met with President Petr Pavel.

President Petr Pavel warmly welcomed Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan on her official visit to the Czech Republic; assessed that the traditional friendly relations and long-standing cooperation between the Czech Republic and Vietnam are developing positively in many fields; and stated that 2025, the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, is a good opportunity for both sides to strengthen high-level exchanges and elevate bilateral cooperation to a new level.

Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan agreed with President Petr Pavel's assessment of the bilateral relationship; at the same time, she affirmed that the Vietnamese people always remember and are grateful for the valuable support and assistance of the Czech people to Vietnam in the struggle for independence and national reunification in the past and in the current process of socio-economic development and international integration; she emphasized that Vietnam always attaches importance to strengthening the traditional friendship with the Czech Republic, a leading partner of Vietnam in Central and Eastern Europe.

The Vice President stated that Vietnam is accelerating digital transformation, green transformation, and climate change adaptation for sustainable development; he considered this a new opportunity for Czech businesses to boost investment and business in Vietnam; he requested the Czech Republic's assistance in lobbying the remaining EU countries to soon ratify the Vietnam-EU Investment Protection Agreement to create an important legal framework to promote bilateral investment cooperation; he urged the European Commission (EC) to soon lift the IUU Yellow Card on Vietnamese seafood exports, ensuring a stable supply for the EU market, including the Czech Republic; and he requested the Czech side to consider signing an agreement on labor cooperation between the two governments to expand the acceptance of Vietnamese workers and facilitate the issuance of visas for Vietnamese citizens studying and traveling in the Czech Republic.

On this occasion, the Vice President thanked the Czech authorities at all levels for their support and for creating favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community to settle down and integrate more deeply into the local society, especially for recognizing the Vietnamese community as the 14th ethnic group of the Czech Republic.

President Petr Pavel and Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan expressed their agreement to continue effectively implementing the Vietnam-EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), facilitating greater access for each other's goods to each other's markets, and serving as gateways to ASEAN and EU markets. They also agreed that both sides need to coordinate in reviewing and updating bilateral cooperation agreements to suit the new development phase; and to further promote cooperation in traditional key areas such as science and technology, defense and security, education and training, culture, and tourism, including exploring the possibility of opening direct flights between the two countries and promoting people-to-people exchanges.

Both sides highly appreciate the important role and contributions of the Vietnamese community who have studied in the Czech Republic, many of whom hold important positions in the Vietnamese state apparatus and economy. The community of 100,000 Vietnamese people in the Czech Republic forms a solid foundation for cooperation between the two countries in many fields.

Both sides agreed that the two countries need to continue coordinating and supporting each other in multilateral forums to effectively respond to global challenges and contribute to peace, cooperation, and development in the region and the world; they also agreed that all disputes and conflicts should be resolved through peaceful means, in accordance with the United Nations Charter and respecting international law.

On this occasion, Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan conveyed President Luong Cuong's invitation to President Petr Pavel to visit Vietnam. President Petr Pavel thanked her and happily accepted the invitation.
