The vibrant, brightly lit performances have been transforming the cultural landscape in many communes and wards of Hai Phong . When the stage is brought to the villages, the spiritual lives of rural people are not only enriched, but a new approach to the socialization of artistic activities is also opened up.

"Concert" about the village

In the festive atmosphere of welcoming the New Year 2026, many stages in communes and wards lit up with a variety of spectacular artistic programs.

Recently, in Lam Xa village (An Phu commune), the Hai Phong City Center for Culture, Cinema and Exhibitions, in coordination with the An Phu Commune Public Service Center, organized a performance program. art. The program received a warm welcome from officials and the public.

The program included many outstanding singing, dancing, and musical performances by artists and actors from the City's Cultural, Film, and Exhibition Center. The performances focused on praising the glorious Party, the beloved President Ho Chi Minh, and the heroic traditions of the Vietnam People's Army; deeply portraying the image of the steadfast and indomitable soldiers of Uncle Ho in the struggle to defend the Fatherland, and their dedication and responsibility in the cause of national construction and development in the new era.

“I really enjoyed watching the cultural performance by artists from the City's Cultural, Film and Exhibition Center. The artists presented very unique performances, with beautiful and expressive singing voices, and the organization was very professional,” said Ms. Hoang Thi Phong, a resident of Lam Xa village.

Not only in An Phu, but recently many communes, wards, and special zones have actively coordinated with the City's Cultural, Film and Exhibition Center to organize art performances with the participation of professional art troupes, helping people enjoy many quality art programs.

In addition to collaborating with professional organizations, many localities have mobilized social resources to organize numerous art programs featuring famous artists. A prime example is the art performance night in Thai Tan commune celebrating the successful Party Congress of the commune in September 2025. These were no longer the familiar "homegrown" performances, but rather well-invested and professionally staged acts.

Mr. Nguyen Van Hoa, a resident of Thai Tan commune, shared: "My whole life has been spent working in the fields, and I rarely have the opportunity to watch major art programs. Now that famous artists have come to our village to perform, everyone is happy and forgets all the fatigue after days of labor."

From this reality, it can be seen that village theater is becoming an important bridge between professional art and the lives of rural audiences. The people are at the center of cultural activities, in line with the spirit of building grassroots cultural life. Mr. Nguyen Van Truong, Director of the An Thanh Commune Public Service Center, expressed his hope that more professional and high-quality art programs will be organized in communes to contribute to improving the spiritual lives of people in rural areas.

Despite their positive impact, maintaining and expanding art performances in rural areas still faces numerous challenges. Funding, infrastructure, and ensuring security and order are all issues that require comprehensive solutions.

To ensure that theater in rural areas is not limited to major festivals, a close coordination mechanism is needed between the government, art organizations, and businesses. The state should play a guiding and supportive role in terms of space and procedures; businesses should participate in investment; and art troupes should bring quality content suitable for rural audiences.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan Huong, Director of Huynh Huong Event and Communication Company (Hai Phong), an important solution is to promote the socialization of artistic activities. When businesses are given favorable conditions to organize performances, they will be more confident in investing. In return, people will enjoy diverse and rich programs, comparable to those in urban areas.

Furthermore, the content of the performances needs to be tailored to the rural context. Beyond pop music or comedy, programs could incorporate folk songs, traditional Vietnamese opera (chèo and cải lương), or performances reflecting contemporary rural life. This blend of tradition and modernity will make the village stage both relatable and fresh.

According to Associate Professor Dr. Dang Thi Phuong Anh from Hanoi National University, Hai Phong has a significant advantage as many newly formed communes and wards, following administrative reorganization, possess spacious public areas suitable for organizing events. If properly utilized, these stadiums, cultural centers, and commune squares could become regular "artistic meeting points."

Furthermore, training local amateur performing arts groups is also essential. When people participate in performances with professional artists, they will gain more confidence and proactively preserve and promote their local cultural identity. This is also a way to ensure that the performances are not just about "bringing" but also about "working together," added Mr. Nguyen Van Truong, Director of the An Thanh Commune Public Service Center.

Bringing the theater to the villages is an investment in people. When their spiritual lives are improved, people will become more attached to their homeland and more in agreement with policies for building new rural areas and civilized urban areas…
