Officials from the Central Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology and the Hai Phong CDC investigated and determined the risk of dengue fever transmission from mosquito larvae.

A working group from the Central Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology, in coordination with the Hai Phong City Center for Disease Control (CDC), has implemented a dengue fever vector surveillance program for 2026 in An Bien and Le Chan wards.

Local authorities have proactively implemented disease prevention and control measures through comprehensive environmental sanitation. They have also promoted and encouraged households to collect waste, remove items that hold stagnant water, introduce fish into open water tanks, change the water in flower vases weekly, and thoroughly treat high-risk areas, maintaining regular mosquito larva eradication activities in households and residential areas. Since the beginning of the year, An Bien ward has recorded 3 cases of dengue fever, and Le Chan ward 6 cases.

According to data compiled by the Hai Phong CDC's Infectious Disease Surveillance System, as of May 18th, the city has recorded 79 cases of Dengue fever, with no deaths reported.

Although the number of cases has not yet increased significantly, the risk of an outbreak in the near future is very high because the period from June to November each year is the peak season for Dengue fever. Hot and humid weather, with alternating rain and sunshine, creates favorable conditions for mosquitoes to breed, develop, and spread the disease in the community.

Health officials in An Bien ward advise residents on hygiene practices to prevent dengue fever.

To proactively prevent and control epidemics, the health sector continues to implement epidemic prevention and control activities in a proactive and synchronized manner, starting from the grassroots level; ensuring sufficient resources, equipment, and chemicals according to the "4 on-site" principle.

Surveillance efforts have been intensified to detect suspected cases early, closely monitor the movement of disease-carrying insects (strain, species, density, etc.) to promptly issue warnings and forecasts, and then quickly implement response measures to prevent the spread and outbreak of the disease.

The health sector recommends that schools, construction sites, lodging areas, agencies, and businesses maintain regular environmental hygiene and remove items that hold stagnant water to prevent mosquito breeding.

Every citizen needs to proactively clean their living spaces, regularly eliminate mosquito larvae, and actively cooperate in disease prevention campaigns. When suspicious symptoms appear, such as sudden high fever, headache, rash, or subcutaneous bleeding, they should quickly go to a medical facility for examination and timely treatment; under no circumstances should they attempt self-treatment at home.
