A home - a dream come true.
“Thanks to the An Giang Provincial Military Command, my family’s dream of having a sturdy house has come true,” Mr. Danh Hong (Giong Rieng commune, An Giang province) emotionally shared when we visited him in his spacious 90m² “House of Gratitude,” a level 4 house recently donated by the An Giang Provincial Military Command.
Previously, Mr. Danh Hong's family lived in a dilapidated temporary house. Unemployed, Mr. Hong had to work as a laborer to make a living. Daily living expenses were difficult to cover, so despite saving for many years, his family hadn't been able to accumulate enough money to build a new house. Understanding the family's situation, the An Giang Provincial Military Command advised, mobilized, and provided 60 million VND through the campaign to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, helping Mr. Hong's family have a new, decent home.

Each new house represents a dream come true for families facing housing difficulties. Therefore, attending the handover ceremonies of these new homes in the movement to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses across the military, we felt the joy and happiness of the families. For example, recently, at the handover ceremony of a house of gratitude in Giang 2 village, Huong Xuan commune, Ha Tinh province, after receiving the handover decision from the leaders of the Ban Giang Border Guard Post, Ha Tinh Provincial Border Guard, Ms. Ho Thi Huong (a Chut ethnic minority woman, the head of the family receiving the house) emotionally shared with us: "Never before has my family celebrated Tet as happily as this year, because the Ban Giang Border Guard Post and benefactors built us a new, sturdy, and spacious house. Now that we have a stable place to live, my family will strive to develop our economy , eradicate poverty, and repay the kindness of the soldiers."
Joining hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses has become a widespread revolutionary movement throughout the army, becoming a "command from the heart," reflecting the conscience and responsibility of military officers and soldiers towards the community, reaching out to families facing housing difficulties across the country. Implementing this movement, as of June 2025, the entire army has mobilized and supported the construction and repair of more than 17,000 houses, totaling over 895 billion VND (excluding houses under Project 80). Of this, the Ministry of National Defense directly supported 11,650 houses, totaling 601 billion VND; and provided financial support for the construction of houses for nearly 1,730 military personnel, defense workers, and contract workers currently serving in the army who are facing housing difficulties, totaling nearly 106 billion VND. Units throughout the army have deployed support for the construction and repair of 3,650 houses, with a total amount exceeding 188 billion VND... These new houses replace temporary and dilapidated houses, contributing to improving the quality of life, alleviating difficulties for disadvantaged families, and serving as a foundation of confidence, inspiring willpower and determination to overcome difficulties and strengthening the bonds of camaraderie among comrades and fellow citizens.
Determined to achieve the goal of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses.
In implementing the movement to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, in recent times, agencies and units throughout the army have deployed many effective measures and methods, contributing to reducing costs and improving the quality and lifespan of houses in the movement.

Mr. Danh Hong happily shared with us that the 60 million VND donated by the Provincial Military Command and 30 million VND contributed by relatives and family members only covered about two-thirds of the total construction cost. The remaining funds were raised thanks to the Provincial Military Command's coordination with the local government and the efforts of local agencies, units, and officers, soldiers, and militia members to contribute labor, resources, and materials to reduce costs and improve the quality of the house.
With the motto "each house is a gift," "a gesture of love," "a warm home," agencies and units throughout the military have intensified propaganda efforts to ensure that officers and soldiers have a correct understanding of the Party, State, and Ministry of National Defense's policy on eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses nationwide; coordinating with local Party committees and authorities to effectively disseminate information to the people about the purpose, meaning, and humanitarian nature of the movement. From this, a strong sense of determination and responsibility has been fostered not only among officers, staff, and soldiers, but also among the entire population, working together with the spirit of "those who can contribute their labor, those who can contribute their resources, and those who can contribute whatever they can."
In implementation, agencies and units concretize the goal of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses into specific tasks in movements such as "Effective Mass Mobilization," "The Army Joins Hands to Build New Rural Areas," and "The Army Joins Hands for the Poor, Leaving No One Behind"... Through this, timely financial support is provided to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, build houses of gratitude, houses for comrades, and houses of solidarity to help military personnel, defense workers, and laborers in the armed forces, as well as poor and near-poor households with difficult circumstances, who do not have housing or whose houses are dilapidated, degraded, or severely damaged by natural disasters.

At the Conference to review the results of the Army's 2025 campaign to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, Lieutenant General Truong Thien To, Deputy Head of the General Political Department of the Vietnam People's Army (VPA), stated that in implementing the "Joining hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses nationwide in 2025" emulation movement, the General Political Department of the VPA has led, directed, and guided agencies and units to closely coordinate with Party committees, governments, the Fatherland Front Committee, and political and social organizations to thoroughly understand the situation, conduct surveys, select, and promptly provide financial support for the construction of houses of gratitude, houses for comrades, and houses of solidarity to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses.
In the coming period, the entire army is determined to continue promoting the movement based on the "6 clear" principles (clear person, clear task, clear responsibility, clear authority, clear time, clear results) and "4 truths" (speak the truth, act truthfully, achieve real results, and ensure real benefits for the people). We will do a good job of advising, coordinating propaganda, and mobilizing forces, organizations, and individuals to actively support (human and material resources) with the determination to work together with the entire Party and people to achieve the goal of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses nationwide.
