During the herring season (starting from the end of February), the sea area of Xuan Yen commune, Nghi Xuan is always bustling with boats going out to sea.

Fisherman Nguyen Van Chien, Yen Ngu village said: "Herrings live about 3 - 5 nautical miles from shore, often swimming on the water surface in schools. Depending on the weather, fishermen will go out to sea at 3 - 4 am, and return around 9 - 10 am the same day."

To shake the fish out of the net, the boat owner mobilized 4-5 people to do the job together.

The fish that fell onto the tarpaulin were collected by people.

According to fishermen, it is now the middle of the herring fishing season. Compared to other sea areas in the province, Nghi Xuan sea area is having a fairly large catch at this time. On average, each boat going out to sea brings back 1-2 quintals of fish, sometimes 5-6 quintals.

“ This trip to the sea was lucky to catch nearly 600 kg of herring. After deducting expenses of about 300,000 VND, my boat earned more than 5 million VND. I hope the weather will be favorable so that people can continue to go out to sea and bring back more blessings from the sea, ” shared fisherman Tran Van Tuan, Yen Ngu village.

From early morning, traders were present to "intercept" the returning boats. Each kilogram of herring is currently sold for 10,000 - 12,000 VND.

Fresh herring are washed with seawater and then "selected" to be brought to the retail market or imported to local fish sauce processing facilities.

Normally, the herring season lasts until the end of April. Therefore, after each return trip, fishermen quickly prepare their fishing gear and actively go out to sea.
