With a bountiful herring catch, fishermen earn millions of dong every day.

(Baohatinh.vn) - Fishermen in Xuan Yen commune (Nghi Xuan district, Ha Tinh province) are taking advantage of favorable weather conditions and actively going out to sea to bring in fresh, delicious herring catches.

During herring fishing season (starting in late February), the sea off Xuan Yen commune, Nghi Xuan district, is always bustling with boats heading out to sea.

The boats docked, laden with heavy catches of nets and filled with the joy of the fishermen.

Fisherman Nguyen Van Chien from Yen Ngu village said: "Herring live about 3-5 nautical miles from the shore, usually swimming in schools on the water's surface. Depending on the weather, fishermen will go out to sea at 3-4 am and return around 9-10 am the same day."

To shake the fish out of the net, the boat owner mobilizes 4-5 people to work together.

The fish that fell onto the tarpaulin were collected by the locals.

According to local fishermen, it is now the middle of the herring fishing season. Compared to other sea areas in the province, the Nghi Xuan sea area is currently experiencing a fairly large catch. On average, each fishing boat brings back 1-2 quintals of fish, sometimes even 5-6 quintals.

“ This fishing trip was lucky to hit a school of herring, bringing in nearly 600 kg of fish. After deducting expenses of about 300,000 VND, my boat earned over 5 million VND. I hope the weather is favorable so that people can continue to go out to sea and bring back more bounty, ” shared fisherman Tran Van Tuan from Yen Ngu village.

From early morning, traders were present to "intercept" the returning fishing boats. Each kilogram of herring is currently selling for 10,000 – 12,000 VND.

The fresh herring are washed with seawater and then "selected" before being sold at retail markets or supplied to fish sauce processing facilities in the area.

Typically, the herring season lasts until the end of April. Therefore, after each fishing trip, fishermen quickly prepare their fishing gear and actively head out to sea.
