Como has secured a place in European competition and still has a chance to compete for a spot in both the Europa League and the Champions League. |
A narrow 1-0 victory against Hellas Verona in Serie A's 36th round secured a top-six finish for the Lombardy-based team in the 2025/26 Serie A season. Tasos Douvikas's solitary goal earned them three valuable points and marked an unprecedented milestone for Como in over a century of its existence.
Exactly two years ago, Como was struggling in Serie B. But under the guidance of Cesc Fabregas, the team has undergone a spectacular transformation. After finishing in the top half of the table in their first season back in Serie A, Como is now guaranteed a place in European competition, at least the Conference League.
Even more impressively, the blue team's dream hasn't ended. Como is currently in 5th place (a Europa League qualifying position) and even has a chance to participate in the Champions League. Como is currently just 2 points away from the Champions League qualification spots with only two rounds remaining in Serie A.
Speaking after the victory against Verona, Fabregas couldn't hide his emotion: "Two years ago we were promoted to Serie A, and today Como has a place in European competition. It's unbelievable. The club, the players, and the fans have all grown together. This is a day we will still be talking about 20 years from now."
Beyond his impressive achievements, Como also received much praise for the modern and emotionally charged style of play that Fabregas built. Despite significant investment, the former Arsenal midfielder remains the most important factor in the team's rise to prominence.
