Ferran Torres is proving himself worthy of being Barcelona's number one striker. |
With a brace of goals in just two La Liga rounds, the Spanish striker now leads the scoring charts, making the competition for the number 9 spot at Camp Nou hotter than ever.
In the La Liga match against Levante on the morning of August 24th, "The Shark" (Torres' nickname) not only scored but also demonstrated his sharp goal-scoring instinct, despite missing a golden opportunity with a shot that went over the crossbar. Prior to that, he also scored against Mallorca, bringing his total for the season to two goals.
“I’ve always believed I can be important to this team. When given the opportunity, I have to make the most of it. The competition within the team is fierce, but that’s a good thing,” Ferran shared after the match.
Torres's explosive form comes at a time when Barcelona needs an answer for the future of their attack. Robert Lewandowski, who just returned from injury in the match against Levante, is likely to enter his final season with the club if his contract is not renewed.
Sporting Director Deco is not currently prioritizing finding a new center forward, as he believes Ferran is capable of handling the role, and also sees Dani Olmo as a backup option in the "false nine" role.
Lewandowski's return will certainly put pressure on Ferran. However, at the moment, it's hard to imagine the Spanish striker being benched for the away match against Rayo Vallecano. The "shark" is biting harder than ever, ready to prove he is the future of Barca's attack.
