The FIFA Club World Cup will kick off in the US on June 15 with 32 teams participating. The winner of the tournament will receive a prize of up to 125.8 million USD. This figure is only about 33 million USD less than the amount PSG earned after winning the Champions League.

However, while the FIFA Club World Cup champions only played 7 matches, the new Champions League champions had to go through 17 matches.
Therefore, the prize money of the FIFA Club World Cup is considered very attractive to many top European football teams. Barcelona, Man Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal, AC Milan are all successful teams in Europe but do not qualify for the FIFA Club World Cup.
FIFA limits the number of European teams to 12. Therefore, expanding the tournament to 48 teams is considered a way to help more European giants participate. Thanks to that, the quality and appeal of the FIFA Club World Cup will be much greater.
The two national team tournaments, the 2026 World Cup and the 2031 Women's World Cup, have both decided to expand to 48 participating teams. Therefore, FIFA is ready to expand the Club World Cup as this tournament is considered a "delicious bait" with great potential but has not been properly exploited.
FIFA sources say discussions on expanding the Club World Cup will be taken seriously after this summer's tournament concludes.
Another change that Premier League clubs could support is an increase in the number of clubs in each country. Currently, FIFA only allows a maximum of two clubs from each country to participate. This would mean Liverpool would not be able to qualify if Chelsea and Man City both win the Champions League between 2021 and 2024.

Currently, FIFA only allows countries to have more than two teams participating if their clubs win continental competitions. Therefore, Brazil has four representatives in the FIFA Club World Cup because they are all Copa Libertadores champions.
The United States has three clubs participating after Los Angeles FC defeated Mexico's Club America in a play-off held after Club Leon was disqualified for violating multi-club ownership rules.
FIFA Secretary General Mattias Grafstrom spoke about plans to expand the Club World Cup. He said: “In the future, we are open to considering formats and similar issues after discussions with the clubs and member associations. I am confident in the future of this competition.”
