On May 21st, the International Football Federation (FIFA) banned Vietnam's Thanh Hoa FC (Dong A Thanh Hoa), currently competing in the V.League, from participating in the transfer market for three consecutive transfer windows.
Accordingly, Thanh Hoa FC was once again sued by a player at FIFA for unpaid wages. Coincidentally, this ban came right after striker Rimario Gordon announced his departure from the team for unexplained reasons. Regardless of who sued, FIFA reviewed the case and found it to be legitimate, so they disciplined Thanh Hoa FC. The suspension began on May 21st and will last for three periods until both parties resolve the issue.
This is the fifth time in the first five months of 2026 that Thanh Hoa FC has been sued at FIFA. On the four previous occasions, the plaintiffs received payment from Thanh Hoa FC as per the agreement.
The ban on registering new players for Thanh Hoa has caused difficulties for coach Mai Xuan Hop and his team. At one point, the team only had 17 players available for registration, including 3 goalkeepers. In one match, the Thanh Hoa team had to field a goalkeeper as a forward to meet the required number of players.
Nevertheless, the fighting spirit of the Thanh Hoa players is still commendable. They earned emotional points and incredible victories to escape the relegation zone.
Currently, Thanh Hoa FC has 24 points and is temporarily ranked 9th in the standings. They are 7 points away from the relegation zone with only 3 rounds remaining in the V.League season.
