In 2025 and the first six months of 2026, the province experienced low rainfall and prolonged dry weather, resulting in 31 forest fires. The damaged area totaled approximately 123 hectares, including 100 hectares of planted forest, mainly pine, eucalyptus, acacia, and other species, and over 22 hectares of natural forest, primarily within the production forest planning area.

Given the high risk of forest fires, especially during the hot season, the Forest Protection Department has advised the Provincial People's Committee to direct localities, agencies, and relevant units to implement various measures to prevent and control forest fires; with a focus on raising awareness among people and forest owners in strictly complying with the law on forestry and forest fire prevention and control.

In Lang Son province , the reality shows that the lives of a segment of the population in remote areas remain difficult, with their income primarily based on forest resource exploitation, yet their awareness of sustainable forest resource development is still limited. The situation of people clearing natural forests to plant new ones, entering forests to harvest timber and firewood, and hunting forest animals has not completely ceased. The number of forest rangers and commune-level officials in charge of forestry is insufficient compared to the requirements of their assigned tasks, and the infrastructure and equipment are largely outdated and do not meet the current requirements for forest fire prevention and control.

Mr. Bui At Suu, Head of the Forest Protection and Nature Conservation Management Department of the Lang Son Provincial Forest Protection Sub-Department, stated: Currently, forest fire prevention and control efforts face difficulties due to limited terrain and transportation infrastructure, making it difficult to access fire sites when forest fires occur. Furthermore, the rudimentary firefighting equipment, primarily dependent on central government funding, is another significant challenge when forest fires break out...

In 2025 and the first few months of 2026, forest rangers from the provincial level to local forest rangers will regularly monitor and update weather conditions and forest fire warning information on the Forest Protection Department's early warning system at the website: Kiemlamvung1.org.vn, in order to inform and warn authorities at all levels, forest owners, and the public to proactively implement forest fire prevention and control measures.

Particularly in areas at high risk of forest fires, forest rangers and local authorities regularly maintain a forest fire watch, coordinating with the public to proactively detect forest fires in areas far from urban centers, thereby minimizing damage caused by forest fires.

Local authorities with large forest areas proactively coordinate with relevant agencies and forest owners to develop plans for mobilizing forces and resources to support forest fire fighting according to the "four on-the-spot" principle when forest fires are detected in their areas. As a result, most forest fires, when detected, are promptly contained and extinguished, preventing them from spreading over a wide area.

Mr. Trieu Luong Hoa, Deputy Head of the Cao Loc Area Forest Ranger Station, shared: When a high-level or extremely dangerous forest fire warning is issued, the local forest rangers coordinate with the local government and other functional forces to educate households and forest owners not to allow people to burn undergrowth, and only to use fire-free methods for clearing undergrowth. At the same time, they prepare fire prevention materials and equipment on-site to promptly extinguish fires, contain fires, and limit their spread, thereby minimizing damage caused by forest fires.

Mr. Hoang Van Hien, from Son Hong village, Ky Lua ward, a forest owner with many years of experience in the forest, said that during hot weather, the risk of forest fires is quite high. Therefore, his family and other households in the area regularly clear the undergrowth beneath the forest canopy because this layer is easily flammable and catches fire quickly, posing a potential risk of forest fires.

The villagers proactively coordinate with relevant authorities via phone and Zalo groups to promptly exchange information and improve the effectiveness of forest fire prevention and response. Upon detecting signs or occurrences of forest fires, the villagers quickly notify and participate in firefighting under the guidance of the authorities. Thanks to the effective implementation of forest fire prevention and control measures, for many years, the planted forest area of Mr. Tran's family and neighboring areas has not experienced any fires. In addition, people in the villages regularly patrol and inspect the forest, especially in high-risk areas, to detect potential risks early and implement effective fire prevention and control measures.

During the prolonged dry season, to minimize damage caused by forest fires, the Forest Protection Departments in the province, along with local authorities and relevant agencies, conduct forest inspections and patrols. In areas with narrow access roads inaccessible to vehicles, local forest rangers use loudspeakers on motorcycles to disseminate information and promptly inform villages about forest fire forecasts through the local forest ranger's Zalo group, encouraging all villagers to participate in forest fire prevention and control.

Local forest rangers also coordinate with local authorities to organize the signing of commitments with each forest owner regarding forest fire prevention, so that forest owners and people can raise their awareness of forest fire prevention. In areas with a high risk of forest fires, the forest ranger force has proactively strengthened guidance to people on the process of burning and safely handling undergrowth after logging in planted forests; advising people to report to the village head and local forest rangers before burning undergrowth, to create firebreaks, and not to burn on windy or sunny days. In many planted forest areas, people do not burn undergrowth using traditional methods but have adopted sustainable farming practices to create organic humus, which helps loosen the soil and retain moisture.

During peak hot weather days, forest rangers also use unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) to patrol rugged areas and areas prone to forest fires, thereby helping to detect fires early so that forces can be mobilized in time to control and extinguish forest fires in the shortest possible time.

Lang Son province has 13,079 hectares of special-use forest land, 99,598 hectares of protection forest land, and 489,559 hectares of production forest land, accounting for 72.47% of the province's total natural area.
