Nearly two decades of persistently buying gold on the occasion of the God of Wealth festival.

In Ho Chi Minh City, gold and jewelry businesses are witnessing a surge in customers during the God of Wealth festival.

Ms. Thu Hong, an employee at a store, said: "From early morning, there have been many customers. Every year, at this time, we have to mobilize extra staff to serve them. We open very early, sometimes without even having breakfast before starting work. But seeing customers happy, everyone eager to buy gold for good luck, gives us more motivation to work," Ms. Hong shared.

Due to increased demand, domestic gold prices are trending slightly upward. Reports indicate that the price of SJC gold and 9999 gold at some major stores has increased by 200,000 - 500,000 VND per tael compared to normal days.

However, this did not diminish people's enthusiasm; many were still determined to buy gold for good luck at the beginning of the year.

"I don't care too much about the price on this day. The most important thing is to buy gold to wish for a prosperous year," shared Ms. Ngan (Binh Thanh).

For many, buying gold on the day of the God of Wealth is not just a habit; it has become a tradition spanning decades. Ms. Nguyen Thi Oanh (on the right), residing in Tan Binh district, shared that for the past 19 years, she has maintained this habit with the belief that gold brings good luck to both her business and her life.

"This is the 19th year I've bought gold on the day of the God of Wealth, almost two decades now. Previously, my work and life faced some difficulties, but things gradually improved, so I believe this is partly what helps me maintain my good fortune and develop further. Now, I still keep this habit, buying at least one tael of gold at the beginning of the year each year to hope for good luck," Ms. Oanh recounted.

According to Ms. Oanh, this year's gold designs are more diverse, suitable for many tastes and needs. After careful consideration, she has chosen a necklace and bracelet that she likes.

This year, gold lucky charms are in high demand, and they are constantly displayed on the shelves.

"This year we have significantly more customers than last year. We've been constantly guiding and assisting customers to ensure transactions go smoothly. Many people arrived early in the morning but were still very patient, which shows they truly value this day," shared Thao Nguyen, a store employee.

The General Manager of a gold jewelry brand in Ho Chi Minh City said: "We have prepared a large quantity of goods and increased staff to serve customers quickly, avoiding crowding or long waits."

Most people don't care about the price when buying gold on the day of the God of Wealth. Ms. Nguyen Thi Hanh (residing in Binh Thanh district) said: "I came early today, but I didn't expect the shop to be so crowded. I don't care whether the gold price is high or not; I believe in buying gold for good luck, hoping for abundant wealth throughout the year."

Besides the bustling locations, some smaller gold shops are experiencing significantly fewer customers. Ms. Lan, an employee at a shop on the gold and silver street in District 5, said: "The number of customers isn't too high; at times, the shop is quite empty. This might be because many people prefer the lively atmosphere at larger gold shops. However, for customers who want to buy quickly without waiting long, this is a reasonable option."

The Day of the God of Wealth (the 10th day of the first lunar month) has long been an important day for businesses and many Vietnamese people. According to folk beliefs, buying gold on this day will bring wealth and good fortune throughout the year. Therefore, even if gold prices fluctuate, many people still don't hesitate to queue up to buy it.

It is expected that the number of people buying gold will increase even further on the main day of the God of Wealth festival. Gold shops advise customers to consider the time they come to buy to avoid long waits and ensure safety during transactions.
