According to information from the Quang Tri Department of Agriculture and Rural Development today, February 9th, due to the influence of a verstärkt cold front, widespread rain fell across the province from the evening of February 7th to the early morning of February 9th. Particularly in Hai Lang and Trieu Phong districts, heavy to very heavy rain occurred, causing flooding in many rice paddies and dryland crops during the winter-spring season.

Nearly 3,550 hectares of rice fields, currently in the tillering stage, have been flooded.

Specifically, as of 10:00 AM on February 9th, nearly 3,550 hectares of rice fields in the tillering stage across the province were flooded with water levels ranging from 20-30 cm, and in some places exceeding 40 cm. This flooding was mainly concentrated in the districts of Hai Lang (over 2,740 hectares), Trieu Phong (440 hectares), Gio Linh (160 hectares), Vinh Linh (44 hectares), and Dong Ha City (145 hectares)...

Currently, local authorities are mobilizing all available manpower and machinery to drain floodwaters, using sandbags to reinforce vulnerable sections of dikes and prevent water from overflowing. However, the current difficulty is that in some low-lying areas of Hai Lang district, water has already flooded and overflowed the inland dike system, hindering drainage efforts. Specifically, some drainage pumping stations in Hai Dinh commune and Dien Sanh town are currently unable to drain floodwaters because the drainage gates to the river have been closed to prevent river water from flooding the inland areas. It is expected that if the rainfall decreases, it will take at least 4-5 days to basically complete the drainage work, after which technical solutions to address the aftermath of the natural disaster will be implemented.
