Ms. Do Thi Ngoc Anh, Master of Finance from the University of West England (TUWE Bristol, UK), shared her insights at the talk show "Understanding AI and Technology for Effective English Learning" on April 21st at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Ho Chi Minh City.

This activity is part of a series of programs for the "Excellent Student Day" and the "LAFES" Foreign Language Club Festival in 2024 at this school.

Sharing the same viewpoint, Pham Cong Nhat, a Master of Media Management and journalism lecturer at the Deakin Institute in Australia, University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City), pointed out the advantages of Gen Z such as technological proficiency and the ability to multitask.

According to Nhật, the personalities and worldviews of Gen Z are being significantly impacted, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic, by persuasive technology. This sometimes leads to a lack of critical thinking skills among them.

Therefore, this directly impacts their information recognition skills and knowledge on the Internet. Not to mention that Generation Z's concentration and patience are no longer as good as they used to be.

"This also affects online learning, especially when there are so many distractions like chatting, music , and news," Nhat analyzed.

Ms. Do Thi Ngoc Anh believes that the current teaching and learning of English follows a gradual, cumulative approach, lacking a clear roadmap or learning mindset. While foreign teaching and learning methods might be suitable, they are unlikely to be appropriate for Vietnamese learners.

According to Ms. Ngoc Anh, Gen Z, or anyone pursuing a foreign language, should make the most of technology and AI because algorithms can analyze learners' strengths and weaknesses to provide suitable suggestions, thereby personalizing their learning.

Technology also helps analyze learners' pronunciation, intonation, and fluency, providing immediate feedback and suggestions.

"In particular, technology helps to assess in detail the level and progress of language proficiency of learners through tests, questions, and automated simulations, something that teachers often find difficult to monitor," Ms. Ngoc Anh said.
