Recognizing the humanitarian and charitable activities of the Red Cross Society in Long Doi Son Pagoda area

Over the past years, the Red Cross Society (RC) in Long Doi Son Pagoda area (Duy Tien town) has carried out many practical, meaningful and humane activities aimed at the disadvantaged, the poor and those in difficult circumstances, helping them to gradually improve their lives.

Established in 1995, the Long Doi Son Pagoda Red Cross Association was initiated by Venerable Thich Thanh Vu, Deputy Head of the Executive Committee, concurrently Head of the Social Charity Committee of the Provincial Buddhist Sangha, Abbot of Long Doi Son Pagoda, on the basis of a charity association. At the beginning of its establishment, the association had 300 members, and now it has grown to more than 5,000 members in wards and communes such as Tien Son, Dinh Xa, Yen Nam, Tan Hiep, Tien Ngoai, etc. Promoting the spirit of mutual love, the Long Doi Son Pagoda Red Cross Association is always active, proactive in innovating and creating content and forms of activities; organizing many practical and meaningful movements and campaigns, always aiming at the grassroots level and the right target. Therefore, the association's activities always attract members, volunteers, and a large number of socio- political organizations, businesses, individuals, and philanthropists to participate.

The Red Cross Association of Diep Son village, Yen Nam commune is one of the associations with many humanitarian activities and practical work in recent years. Mr. Nguyen Dang Lang, the Association's Head, said: The association currently has more than 300 members, operating in 7 association groups. Every year, the association mobilizes members and their families to well implement the Party's guidelines, policies and laws of the State; actively propagate the purpose and meaning of charitable activities, support people in difficult circumstances... Thereby, it has mobilized and maintained a fund of 5 - 6 million VND. In 2024 alone, from the mobilized sources, the association organized visits and gave gifts to more than 50 people in difficult circumstances, lonely elderly people, orphans, and sick members.

The Red Cross Association of Long Doi Son Pagoda area presented gifts to households in difficult circumstances at the 30th Anniversary Celebration (1995 - 2025).

Ms. Dinh Thi Tuyet, 83 years old, living in Diep Son village, Yen Nam commune, is one of the members who has a difficult situation when she has to live alone because her children are all married and working far away. However, with the care of the Diep Son village Red Cross Association, for many years now, on every holiday and Tet, Ms. Tuyet has been visited, given gifts of encouragement and received regular care, support and sharing from the members of the association. Especially, since participating in activities of the Red Cross Association, she feels that her life is happier and more meaningful.

According to Venerable Thich Thanh Vu, there are always people in society who need help. Therefore, in addition to practicing, the Venerable himself always accompanies members of the associations and local authorities at all levels and sectors to join hands in implementing social security activities to help people in difficult circumstances so that they can have a more stable life. In recent years, the association has promoted local resources, at the same time taking advantage of external support resources to organize humanitarian activities through programs such as: giving gifts on the occasion of Lunar New Year; coordinating to give wheelchairs to the disabled; supporting the construction of charity houses... From the beginning of 2025 to now, the total value of the association's humanitarian activities has reached more than 100 million VND. In particular, on the occasion of the Lunar New Year of At Ty, the Red Cross Association in Long Doi Son Pagoda area visited, encouraged, and gave more than 200 gifts with a total value of over 60 million VND to members, students, lonely elderly people, orphans in difficult circumstances...

With many meaningful humanitarian activities, the Red Cross Association of Long Doi Son Pagoda has been multiplying noble acts to bring people closer together, spreading the spirit of mutual love and solidarity for the community. Through that, many groups and individuals working in the branches have been awarded certificates of merit by the Red Cross Association at all levels for their outstanding achievements in the association's work and the Red Cross movement at the local and grassroots levels.
