On May 29th, in an interview with VTC News , Mr. Pham Ngoc Thach (husband of Ms. Le Thi Dung) stated that the family will hire approximately 3-4 lawyers to defend her in the upcoming appeal trial.
"We will invite two lawyers who previously defended us in the first-instance trial (lawyers Vu Quang Ninh and Nguyen Thi Phan Huong). In addition, for the upcoming appeal trial, the family has invited a lawyer from Danh Hue Law Office. The lawyers are currently completing the procedures, but it is still unknown whether the court will allow them to participate," Mr. Thach further shared.
The appeal trial of Ms. Le Thi Dung, former Director of the Continuing Education Center of Hung Nguyen District (Nghe An Province), is scheduled to take place on June 12th. Prior to this, the People's Procuracy of Nghe An Province had filed an appeal against the initial verdict, requesting that the case be overturned for reinvestigation and retrial.
The Standing Committee of the Nghe An Provincial Party Committee also requested ensuring the independence of the courts within their jurisdiction, with judges and jurors acting independently and adhering to the law. Appeals proceedings must comply with legal regulations, ensuring the correct identification of the perpetrator and the correct crime, and must be thorough, fair, objective, and reasonable, thereby fostering social consensus.
Authorities searched the workplace of Ms. Le Thi Dung.
As reported by VTC News , on April 7, 10, 11, 17, and 24, the People's Court of Hung Nguyen District (Nghe An) held the first-instance trial of Ms. Le Thi Dung, former Director of the Vocational Education and Continuing Education Center of Hung Nguyen District (Nghe An), on the charge of "Abusing position and power in the performance of official duties".
According to the indictment, during her tenure, Ms. Le Thi Dung caused damage to the state budget of nearly 44.7 million VND.
After several days of trial, the Judging Panel sentenced the defendant Le Thi Dung to 5 years in prison. In addition, the Judging Panel also ordered the recovery of over 44.7 million VND from the defendant Dung to be returned to the Vocational Education and Continuing Education Center of Hung Nguyen district.
After the court pronounced its verdict, Ms. Dung filed an appeal against the entire first-instance judgment.
