On the morning of September 13th, having narrowly escaped death in the horrific fire that broke out in his apartment building last night, Mr. DQ.T (42 years old) was still in a state of shock.

Sitting and holding his 27-month-old daughter, who is being monitored for injuries at the Pediatric Center (Bach Mai Hospital), Mr. T. thanked God and Buddha that his family was still alive.

According to Mr. T, he was still awake at 11 pm because he worked late last night. Suddenly, shouts of "fire!" and cries for help echoed from the first floor of the apartment building.

Smoke started rising from the emergency exit on the balcony. Confused, he opened the door and discovered a fire. Grabbing a fire extinguisher, he rushed down to the first floor where the fire originated to put it out, but the flames were too intense and the smoke was so thick he could barely breathe. Seeing the situation was dire, the man quickly ran back upstairs to rescue his wife and children.

Mr. T recalled the moment he and his family escaped the fire.

"I quickly told my two children, a 9-year-old girl and an 8-year-old boy, to run up to the 9th-floor rooftop to escape the smoke," Mr. T. said, adding that the rooftop is an open space of about 300 square meters, so if smoke rises, it will disperse elsewhere and the children will not suffocate.

Mr. T returned home to pick up his wife and youngest child, 27 months old, to run to the rooftop. When he opened the door, smoke flooded the house, and the hot air caused the glass windows to shatter.

Knowing they couldn't escape up the stairs, he quickly pulled his wife and children to the emergency balcony. "At that moment, jumping down was the only way to survive," Mr. T. said.

The man quickly grabbed a blanket, pulled back the curtains, and threw them onto the corrugated iron roof of the first floor. Then, holding his 27-month-old child in his arms, he jumped down. The pain in his arm made Mr. T. grimace, but he still tried to encourage his wife to jump. His wife then jumped after him, breaking her leg and is currently receiving emergency treatment at Saint Paul Hospital.

"Luckily, the two children are now lying here peacefully, but my heart is burning with anxiety because I have no information about my 9-year-old daughter. When I asked her, she said that it was crowded and chaotic at the time, so she didn't see her sister either," Mr. T added.

The head of the Pediatric Center said that the condition of Mr. T.'s two children is currently stable, and tests revealed no particular abnormalities. The 27-month-old has a soft tissue injury on her leg, but it is not serious.

At the Emergency Center of Bach Mai Hospital, patient BQM (born in 1994), from Hai Duong province, is receiving oxygen after emergency treatment. M. and his younger brother had been renting an apartment in this building for over a year. When the fire broke out, M.'s apartment was on the 4th floor, and M. jumped from the 4th floor. As a result, M. suffered multiple injuries. His younger brother, a student, also sustained serious injuries. Both brothers are still hospitalized at the A9 Emergency Center.

Associate Professor Dr. Luong Ngoc Khue visited and encouraged patients who were victims of the mini-apartment building fire at Bach Mai Hospital.

The doctor caring for M. shared, "When the patient arrived at the hospital, her whole body was black. Medical staff provided emergency care, cleaned her body, and offered psychological support, which helped the patient feel more at ease."

Standing outside the emergency room, Mr. Nguyen Van H. (the victim's name has been changed) still cannot forget the horror of last night's fire.

"My daughter's family consists of five people: the couple, their two children, and her father-in-law, who live on the 7th floor of the apartment building. My house is next door. When I heard the fire trucks, I had a feeling something bad had happened, so I immediately went to my daughter's house and saw that it was on fire," Mr. H. said.

Upon arriving at the scene, the person reported seeing a large fire, with many motorbikes on the first floor burned to ashes. Fortunately, Mr. H.'s family of five was rescued in time and taken to the hospital for emergency treatment.

The health of the family members is now stable, and they are receiving oxygen. Mr. H. said that while watching the fire, he witnessed several people in the apartment building jumping from the upper floors and sustaining serious injuries.

Representatives from the Pediatric Center of Bach Mai Hospital also provided additional information on the morning of September 13th, stating that they had received 7 patients, the youngest being 8 months old and the oldest 10 years old. Clinically, the patients are stable and are receiving high-flow oxygen. However, the children's mental state is unstable and they are frightened. Among the 7 patients, one 2-year-old, in addition to asphyxiation, also has soft tissue damage to the leg.

Mr. Luong Ngoc Khue, Director of the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management ( Ministry of Health ), provided a quick update to the press on the morning of September 13th.

During a visit to Bach Mai Hospital this morning to inquire about patients, Mr. Luong Ngoc Khue, Director of the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management (Ministry of Health), assessed that Bach Mai Hospital has done a good job in receiving, providing emergency care, and handling each case. Furthermore, the hospital has followed the correct emergency procedures for a disaster, which involves meticulously classifying each patient and transferring them to the appropriate specialty.

Mr. Khue also suggested that the hospital continue to focus all resources, closely monitor all patients, and not charge any fees in any case. At the same time, the hospital needs to establish a special task force to focus on treating these patients .
