Rice price today 7/1/2025 in export market

According to information from the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), Vietnam's rice export prices today remain unchanged from the previous day. Specifically, the price of 25% broken rice is currently at 358 USD/ton; 100% broken rice fluctuates around 317 USD/ton; while 5% broken rice remains at 383 USD/ton, unchanged from the end of last week.

In contrast, 5% broken rice from Thailand and Pakistan is being offered at a higher price of $388 per tonne. In India, the world’s largest rice exporter, 5% broken rice is currently at $380 per tonne, the lowest on the market.

India’s rice stocks are now at their highest in more than 20 years, accounting for more than 10% of annual global production. With a record crop coming, the country is facing the risk of “overstocking” – a paradox where production gains are the biggest challenge for the food sector.

According to the Food Corporation of India (FCI), stocks in June reached nearly 39 million tonnes, of which more than 32 million tonnes were unmilled paddy, equivalent to about 23 million tonnes of milled rice. Public warehouses are overflowing, and the government is concerned that rice will have to be stored outdoors, facing the risk of spoilage due to humidity and rain.

Positive weather forecasts are adding to the pressure. Thanks to an early monsoon, rice plantings in India were up 58% as of June 20 compared to the same period last year. The FAO predicts that the 2025–26 crop is likely to break another record, putting further pressure on already tight storage facilities.

Meanwhile, global rice prices are trending downward. India’s recent easing of export restrictions has caused Thai rice prices—the regional benchmark—to fall nearly 40 percent from their peak earlier this year. But the surplus is still struggling to be absorbed, as global demand shows signs of slowing and competition from other exporting countries increases.

The Indian government is trying to address the surplus through welfare programs and temporary measures, such as diverting 2.4 million tonnes of rice to ethanol production. However, these are short-term measures and are not enough to completely address the supply-demand imbalance.

Experts from the FAO warn that India has a major influence on the global rice market, but the pressure from inventories will continue to persist if the country does not soon adjust its purchasing, storage and distribution policies, towards a more sustainable food system.
