Up to this point, Kien Giang province has basically completed harvesting the 2023-2024 Summer-Autumn and Winter-Spring rice crops, with an estimated output of more than 2.55 million tons, exceeding the plan by 3.86%, reaching 58.13% compared to the 2024 food year plan, with an average yield of 7.25 tons/ha.

Many localities in the Mekong Delta have basically finished harvesting the Winter-Spring rice crop and are actively preparing for the Summer-Autumn crop.

Regarding exports, Vietnam's 5% broken rice price was offered at 580 USD/ton in the session on April 11, unchanged from a week ago.

A trader in Ho Chi Minh City said domestic rice prices are rising slightly due to signs of a decline in supply, while saltwater intrusion in some Mekong Delta provinces is threatening rice production there.

Vietnam's rice exports in the first quarter of 2024 rose 17.8% from a year earlier to 2.18 million tonnes, according to customs data.

Meanwhile, export prices of rice from Thailand rose this week thanks to strong demand from Indonesia.

Meanwhile, Indian rice prices were near a two-month low. Thai 5% broken rice was offered at $585-$590 a tonne, up from $570 a tonne a week earlier.

New supplies are still being harvested and rice prices are being supported by demand from Indonesia, where buyers are sourcing from Thailand, Vietnam and Pakistan.

Top exporter India's 5% broken parboiled rice prices were quoted at $540-$548 a tonne this week.

Indian rice prices hit a record high of $560 a tonne last month after the country's customs changed the method of calculating export duties.

In the domestic market, supplies are still adequate but demand from Asian and African buyers has slowed down in the past few days, said an exporter in Mumbai.

Rice prices in Bangladesh remain high despite high production and record stocks, prompting the government to allow private imports of nearly 100,000 tonnes of rice to control prices.

The world coffee market showed that on the London market on April 12, the price of Robusta coffee for delivery in May 2024 stood at 3,952 USD/ton (up 109 USD/ton).

Arabica coffee prices on the New York floor also increased sharply, with the May 2024 contract increasing by 6.67% to 235.05 cents/lb. (1 lb = 0.454 kg). Thus, Arabica coffee prices have reached a 6-month high and Robusta coffee prices seem to be constantly moving towards the peak of 30 years ago.

Concerns about unfavorable coffee crops in Brazil and Vietnam are supporting the market. Domestically, green coffee prices in the Central Highlands provinces are fluctuating between VND108,800-109,000/kg.

According to Vietnamese coffee export businesses, the new historical milestone of 110,000 or 120,000 VND/kg of coffee is only a matter of time, due to high world demand, while supply from Vietnam is running out./.
