On December 23rd, the prevailing price of live pigs was 66,000 - 70,000 VND/kg. In some key pig farming areas such as Dong Nai , Hung Yen, and Hai Phong, traders were buying at 68,000 - 70,000 VND/kg, about 20,000 VND/kg higher than the lowest point in November, when prices sometimes dropped to only 46,000 - 50,000 VND/kg.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment , pig farming in some localities has begun to recover after the impact of African swine fever, but the restocking process is uneven. Meanwhile, prolonged heavy rains and floods in the central provinces have reduced the scale of pig farming, making it difficult to restore production. In November, the total pig herd nationwide increased slightly by 0.3% compared to the same period last year.
Besides disease outbreaks and natural disasters, high livestock production costs are also preventing many households from restocking their herds. Rising prices for breeding stock, veterinary medicine, and disease prevention costs are putting pressure on farmers, while cautious sentiment following a prolonged period of losses is slowing supply recovery, driving up live pig prices.

According to Mr. Nguyen Kim Doan, Vice Chairman of the Dong Nai Livestock Association, in addition to the impact of disease and natural disasters, the fact that people sold their livestock early to cut losses when prices fell below 50,000 VND earlier created a supply gap.
Rising input costs have led many small traders in traditional markets in Ho Chi Minh City to adjust their selling prices upwards by 5,000 - 10,000 VND/kg. Pork ribs are commonly priced at 170,000 - 180,000 VND/kg, and pork belly at 145,000 - 150,000 VND/kg.
In Hanoi, pork prices at traditional markets have also increased by about 10,000 VND/kg. Pork belly is around 160,000 VND/kg, pork ribs 140,000 VND/kg, and lean cuts of meat range from 135,000 to 145,000 VND/kg...
