The Gio Linh District Forest Protection Department determined that the reticulated python had been caught in a net a few days prior, and had several wounds on its neck emitting a foul odor. The district's Forest Protection Department has taken the python in for care and will release it back into its natural habitat once it recovers.
The reticulated python, scientifically known as Python reticulatus , belongs to group IIB in the list of endangered and rare forest animals, prohibiting their exploitation and use. This species lives in open forests, near rivers and streams, spending most of its time in trees. They are excellent swimmers and are primarily nocturnal.
