Fake news, real damage.
According to many poultry farmers in Binh Phuoc , the cost of producing one egg is about 1,600 VND, but the selling price has dropped to around 1,400 VND, forcing farmers to incur losses.
In the context of abundant supply and stable production, the spread of misinformation about fake chicken eggs disrupts the market, lowers product prices, and puts farmers and businesses in a difficult position.
Thanh An Livestock and Service Cooperative (Hon Quan district) is one of the largest egg-laying chicken farms in the area. For more than half a month now, the cooperative's egg sales have slowed down, especially after rumors about fake chicken eggs spread on social media, causing the selling price of eggs to drop to only 1,300 VND per egg.
“In previous months, the wholesale price of chicken eggs was 2,000 VND/egg and we still weren't making a profit. Now, the spread of false information is making things even more difficult for us. Before, the cooperative sold about 20,000 chicken eggs to the market every day. Now we only maintain our traditional distribution channels. Supplying new markets is very challenging because they are afraid of fake eggs,” said Mr. Ha Trong Hung, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Thanh An Livestock and Service Cooperative.
The Loc Ninh District Farmers' Association visited and encouraged an egg-laying chicken farm.
Not only are poultry farmers facing difficulties, but small traders selling poultry eggs at local markets are also affected by the false rumors. Ms. Pham Thi Ny, a small trader at Loc Thuan commune market, Loc Ninh district, said: "On average, my shop sells about 500 eggs a day, purchased from the farm at about 2,200 VND/egg. However, since the news of fake eggs spread, the selling price has dropped to 1,800 VND/egg, and the number of buyers has also decreased significantly. At this price, my family is losing at least 2 million VND per day."
There is no scientific evidence worldwide of the production of fake eggs that resemble natural chicken eggs. In fact, in our country, neither in the past nor currently have fake eggs been found circulating in the market. Therefore, it can be affirmed that the information circulating on social media about the production of fake chicken eggs domestically is completely fabricated. |

Farmers' Association gets involved.
To respond to rumors and protect farmers, the Provincial and local Farmers' Associations have taken concrete action. Mr. Hoang Ngoc Anh, Chairman of the Loc Ninh District Farmers' Association, stated: “Through the network of members and various forums, community clubs, and digital technology groups, the association has disseminated information and encouraged people and members to filter information, condemn the spreading of false rumors, and monitor reputable media outlets such as Binh Phuoc Radio and Television, Vietnam Voice Radio , and Vietnam Television for more specific information. The association also encourages farmers to affirm their brand reputation by supplying commercial chicken eggs directly from their farms to distributors.”
Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan's laying hen farm (Hamlet 8, Loc Thuan Commune, Loc Ninh District) is well-invested.
Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan's family in Hamlet 8, Loc Thuan Commune, has been involved in raising chickens for commercial egg production for over 10 years. In recent days, with social media platforms flooded with information and images about fake eggs and the technology used to produce them, he and many other farmers have been understandably worried. However, with over 10 years of experience in the business, he has developed his own solutions to deal with the rumors.
“I have signed specific contracts with dozens of partners and small traders in the area, and I guarantee the quality of the chicken eggs. Currently, my farm supplies about 3,000 eggs to distributors every day. I also participate in promoting our products to members recently. For those who are still skeptical, I open my farm to everyone for a tour of our breeding process. People can see firsthand how the chickens lay eggs and how the eggs are harvested. Fake eggs might appear somewhere outside the country, but honestly, it's difficult to counterfeit chicken eggs,” Mr. Tuan asserted.
According to data from the Department of Agriculture and Environment, the province currently raises approximately 7 million chickens, producing over 300 million eggs per year. In response to information circulating on social media about the production of fake chicken eggs, the relevant authorities encourage farmers to overcome difficulties, promote farming practices based on biosafety standards and traceability, and provide clean egg products to consumers.
Currently, the Vietnam Poultry Association has sent official letters to the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Science and Technology, and media outlets to request action against those spreading false rumors about fake chicken eggs. Those who intentionally spread false information about fake chicken eggs, causing harm to poultry farmers and the poultry industry, must be identified and promptly dealt with according to the law.
