Key motivation, a vital factor for survival.
The workshop was organized to further clarify the role and development trends of science, technology, and innovation as key drivers of economic growth, increased labor productivity, and ensuring rapid and sustainable national development in the digital age in Vietnam and the world.
The workshop focused on summarizing and evaluating the results of one year of implementing Resolution No. 57-NQ/TƯ dated December 22, 2024, of the Politburo on breakthroughs in the development of science , technology, innovation, and national digital transformation; identifying opportunities, challenges, and issues; and proposing directions and solutions to strongly promote the science, technology, and innovation ecosystem in Vietnam in the coming period.

With the goal of becoming a developing country with modern industry and high middle income by 2030, and a developed country with high income by 2045, the Party has identified science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation as key driving forces and vital factors to overcome the middle-income trap and the risk of falling behind, while simultaneously realizing the nation's aspiration for strength and prosperity.
Associate Professor Dr. Vu Trong Lam emphasized that, in the context of the strong digital transformation taking place globally, Resolution No. 57-NQ/TƯ dated December 22, 2024, of the Politburo on breakthroughs in the development of science, technology, innovation, and national digital transformation has "marked a strong shift in the strategy for the development of science and technology, a key area to focus on removing bottlenecks from general awareness to institutions, creating momentum to promote the comprehensive development of the country."
“The development of science, technology, and innovation in recent years has achieved many great accomplishments, making important contributions to socio-economic development, ensuring national defense and security, disaster prevention, environmental protection, climate change adaptation, and sustainable development of the country. Science, technology, and innovation are increasingly affirmed as one of the key drivers of economic growth, improving labor productivity, quality, efficiency, and competitiveness of the economy,” Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vu Trong Lam affirmed.

However, in recent years, alongside the achievements, the development of science, technology, and innovation in Vietnam still faces many limitations and shortcomings, such as: the pace and breakthroughs in the development of science, technology, innovation, and national digital transformation are still slow; the legal framework, mechanisms, and policies do not yet meet the requirements; there is a shortage of high-quality human resources; infrastructure is not synchronized, especially digital infrastructure, which still has many limitations; research and development (R&D) capacity is weak; there has been no breakthrough in the commercialization of scientific and technological research results; procedures regarding intellectual property and disbursement of public investment capital are still complex; and strategic technologies have not yet been mastered...

“We must recognize this as a profound and comprehensive revolution across all fields; implemented decisively, persistently, synchronously, consistently, and over the long term with groundbreaking and revolutionary solutions; it is not the sole task of the Party, the State, or any organization or individual, but the shared responsibility and mission of the entire nation. The State plays a leading role, the people and businesses are the center, the subjects, the main resources and driving forces; and scientists are the key factor,” Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Ha emphasized.
The key issues to focus on are: thoroughly addressing institutional, human resource, infrastructure, data, and strategic technology bottlenecks; promoting the digital literacy movement, fostering digital citizens, digital culture, and a modern digital society; ensuring cybersecurity and national sovereignty on digital platforms and in cyberspace; ensuring the security and safety of legitimate data of organizations, individuals, and businesses; strengthening cooperation with countries with advanced science and technology, promoting technology transfer, and building an innovation ecosystem linked to international integration to enhance national competitiveness.
