Associate Professor Huynh Quyet Thang advises students to proactively use English in their studies and research, so that the Polytechnic environment truly becomes world-class.

At the opening ceremony of the new academic year on September 10th, before 8,000 people, Associate Professor Huynh Quyet Thang, Director of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, gave three pieces of advice to new students.

According to Mr. Thang, Hanoi University of Science and Technology pays special attention to the use of English. This year, new students must undergo an international standard English proficiency test, the TOEIC Placement test. Based on this, faculty members will provide advice on how students can best learn and use English in their studies, research, and innovation.

Mr. Thang believes that students need, are required, and must proactively use English in their studies, research, and in completing major assignments and graduation projects.

"I believe the students will master and use English effectively. This is the foundation for the university to internationalize faster and for the Hanoi University of Technology to truly be of international standard," Mr. Thang said.

Furthermore, the head of Hanoi University of Science and Technology believes that students need to identify their personal abilities, qualities, and strengths in order to choose a suitable development path.

According to him, university education is very different, requiring students to be mature and choose the knowledge they need to learn and explore. They also need to balance and allocate their time for studying, recreation, and sports training in a reasonable way.

Typically, upon entering university, each student needs to choose a path to follow after graduation: employment, postgraduate studies, or entrepreneurship - starting their own business.

Mr. Thang hopes that new students at the Polytechnic University will think carefully and make wise choices, aligning with their aspirations, family circumstances, and personal abilities, so that they can step out into the world with the mindset of global citizens.

The Rector of Hanoi University of Science and Technology also advised students to always cultivate love and compassion, live kindly, and work effectively. "Compassion is the foundation upon which each of us can overcome challenges and difficulties," Mr. Thang said.

Since last year, the Polytechnic University has established a code of conduct for communication within the school and online environment. After a year of implementation, communication culture has clearly changed in a positive direction.

"Open your hearts, share your difficulties and joys. Your success will come from even the smallest things. Hanoi University of Science and Technology will be a microcosm of society where you can learn both life skills and work skills," Mr. Thang shared.

Nguyen Tuan Phong, a freshman in the Control and Automation Engineering program, was impressed by the advice from the head of the university. "Those were all practical pieces of advice that helped us know what we needed to do right from our first year," Phong said.

This year, Hanoi University of Science and Technology welcomed over 8,000 new students from 52 provinces and cities, the furthest being Bac Lieu; along with 94 international students from 10 countries. 22% of the new students are female.

Mr. Thang emphasized that the spirit of the new academic year at Hanoi University of Science and Technology is "to dedicate ourselves wholeheartedly, to transform more strongly, to innovate more effectively, to pursue digital transformation more decisively, and to accelerate green transformation."

Established in 1956, Hanoi University of Science and Technology is a top-ranked university in Vietnam for engineering education. The university offers 65 undergraduate majors, 47 postgraduate majors, and 32 doctoral majors.
