The Director of Hue University has been arrested.

Mr. Le Anh Phuong, director of Hue University, has been charged and temporarily detained by the Hue City Police for investigation into the crime of abusing his position and authority while performing his official duties.

On January 18th, sources from Tuoi Tre Online reported that the People's Procuracy of Hue City had approved the decision to initiate a criminal case, indict the suspect, and issue an arrest warrant for Mr. Le Anh Phuong, Director of Hue University, to investigate and clarify his alleged abuse of power and authority while performing his official duties.

According to information obtained by Tuoi Tre Online , Mr. Phuong was prosecuted for his involvement in irregularities at the University of Education, Hue University, several years ago.

The incident occurred when Mr. Phuong was still serving as the principal of the University of Education, Hue University.

Before his temporary detention, Mr. Phuong sent a letter to the member universities and affiliated units of Hue University informing them of his sick leave. Mr. Phuong authorized Mr. Bui Van Loi, the deputy director of Hue University, to manage and handle the affairs of Hue University during this period.

All activities at Hue University are proceeding as normal.

Mr. Le Anh Phuong was born on February 20, 1974, in Quang Binh province. He studied mathematics education at Hue University of Education, then pursued a master's and doctoral degree in information technology at Hanoi University of Science and Technology. In 2017, Mr. Phuong was appointed associate professor.

Mr. Phuong previously held the positions of Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Hue University, and Secretary of the Party Committee and Rector of the University of Education, Hue University.

In July 2022, Mr. Le Anh Phuong was appointed by the Ministry of Education and Training to the position of Director of Hue University for the term 2021-2026.
