Unique exhibition space
The Phong Nha Cave Exploration Information Center is creatively designed to perfectly replicate the space of a natural cave in the heart of Phong Nha mountain town. Upon entering, visitors will be overwhelmed by the meticulously crafted ceiling with its vibrant hanging stalactites, combined with an artistic lighting system that recreates the shimmering, magical light of the underground cave.
In particular, the meticulously designed modern ventilation system maintains a cool and airy airflow, creating a realistic feeling as if one were directly passing through the majestic limestone formations. This sophisticated combination of architectural art and simulation technology not only creates a unique exhibition space but also provides visitors with a vivid visual and sensory experience, as if they were in a real cave.

From 1990 to the present, after more than 35 years of tireless searching and surveying, the British Royal Cave Expedition team led by Howard Limbert has successfully explored 472 caves with a total length of up to 254km in Quang Tri province. Many of these sites have become globally famous and have been developed for sustainable tourism, such as Thien Duong Cave, En Cave, Va Cave, and especially Son Doong Cave - the world's largest natural cave.
To gain a deeper understanding of the expedition's process of surveying and exploring the caves, visitors to the Phong Nha Cave Exploration Information Center will be guided through each chapter of history, from valuable documentary films and images about the first surveys, to specialized exploration equipment and a system of detailed, hand-drawn cave maps.
Beyond simply displaying artifacts, the center also utilizes immersive visual experiences, allowing visitors to clearly appreciate the grandeur of the stalactite formations in the caves or the mysteries of the underground rivers. It truly is a treasure trove of scientific knowledge, connecting a passion for exploration with the unique heritage values of Vietnam.
Ms. Le Ngoc Quynh Tram, from Ho Chi Minh City, shared: “The center is a wonderful place, helping visitors understand more about Phong Nha and the history of cave exploration. This is a very valuable and meaningful destination for those who love nature and cave exploration.”

Participating in the Son Doong cave exploration using 5D VR technology, visitors are no longer observers from the outside but actually step inside the cave. The 5D virtual reality experience is designed to bring viewers to the most realistic level of sensation of an expedition.
With 180-degree visuals combined with vivid sound, frame-by-frame motion, and subtle changes in temperature and humidity, all senses are awakened. From the moment the journey begins, visitors will clearly feel the enveloping chill, the thin mist, and the distinctive echoes, from the steady dripping of water in the darkness to the howling wind whistling through the enormous cave arches.
Jo Needler, a tourist from the United Kingdom, shared: “I knew I would never have the chance to explore Son Doong Cave in person. Therefore, experiencing 5D VR technology at the Phong Nha Cave Exploration Information Center is the closest way for me to truly feel the wonder of Son Doong Cave.”
According to Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Dang Dong Ha: “The Phong Nha Cave Exploration Information Center is a unique tourism product, contributing to opening up a new direction in promoting, introducing, and developing tourism products related to cave exploration; while continuing to improve the ecosystem of products and services, making Quang Tri a center of adventure tourism in Asia. To continue developing new products, the unit will coordinate the investigation and assessment of tourism resources in the province; resolutely innovate existing products; prioritize the development of tourism products with high innovation and added value. At the same time, create a chain of products that are symbolic of the province; develop diverse, focused, and key four main product pillars, including: ecotourism, cave and adventure tourism; cultural and historical tourism; beach and island tourism, resort and sports tourism; and supplementary tourism to overcome seasonality...”.
According to Ms. Le Thi Hai Yen, Training Director of Oxalis Co., Ltd.: “To acknowledge and express gratitude for the immense contributions of Mr. Howard Limbert, Ms. Debora Claire Limbert, Mr. Ho Khanh, and the members of the cave exploration team, Oxalis officially opened its center to visitors free of charge from April 26, 2026. This is not only a place to preserve heritage values but also helps the public access the journey of exploring Vietnam's underground wonders in the most visual, vivid, and intimate way. The center also provides visitors with the opportunity to experience a Son Doong tour using 5D VR technology with a 15-minute exploration journey. All revenue from this activity will be contributed to the Oxalis Foundation to implement community support programs and improve the lives of local people.”
