At the recent conference summarizing the 2023-2024 school year and outlining tasks for the 2024-2025 school year in Bac Lieu province, the province awarded the title of "Outstanding Teacher" to six teachers (two men and four women), including: one kindergarten principal; two primary school teachers; and three secondary school teachers.
This is a prestigious title bestowed upon educators by the President of Vietnam .

Ms. Lam Thi Sang, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Bac Lieu province, said that these six teachers have contributed to the province's team of administrators and teachers who have achieved the title of Excellent Teacher, bringing the total to approximately 40 people.
However, compared to other provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta region, the number of Meritorious Teachers in Bac Lieu province is still quite small. Many provinces in the region already have 100 or more Meritorious Teachers.
Ms. Sang believes that the reason is not because the province's teaching staff is unqualified or incompetent, but rather due to many factors, including possibly a certain degree of reluctance on the part of the teachers.
"Last year, we only received 6 applications for the title of Outstanding Teacher by the deadline. When these 6 applications were submitted to the province, they were approved, and then the national council recognized them all," Ms. Sang informed, adding that this shows the province's application volume is very low compared to other localities.
At the year-end review conference, the head of the education department of Bac Lieu province encouraged and expressed his hope that teachers would overcome their shyness and pay more attention to the consideration for this prestigious title.
"Outstanding Teacher" is a prestigious title, representing the State's recognition and honoring of individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the nation's education and training.
Distinguished teachers need to possess good moral character, dedication, and commitment to their profession; they should be shining examples, exemplary and outstanding educators with widespread influence in the field and society, respected by students, colleagues, and the public; they should be at the forefront of innovation in educational management, teaching methods, and assessment; and they should manage and teach with high quality and effectiveness.
As of the end of May 2024, Bac Lieu province had 7,680 recruited teachers, including 1,384 for preschool, 2,788 for primary school, 2,119 for lower secondary school, and 798 for upper secondary school.
Regarding professional qualifications and expertise: The percentage of teachers and education management staff meeting the standards according to the 2019 Education Law is 98.68% for preschool, 83.89% for primary school, 94.71% for lower secondary school, and 100% for upper secondary school.
According to the Department of Education and Training of Bac Lieu province, in the coming time, the province will continue to implement the roadmap to raise the training standards of preschool, primary, and secondary school teachers; focus on training and improving management and teaching capacity at all levels and implementing the 2018 general education program; and train teachers in line with needs to ensure sufficient structure, quantity, and quality to meet the requirements of educational reform.
