On April 30th, the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO), in collaboration with the Peace Ships Organization and two Nobel Peace Prize laureates – the Nihon Hidankyo Federation and the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) – organized an exchange program titled “Continuing the Story of Peace.” The program took place aboard the Pacific World cruise ship (Japan), which docked at Ha Long International Cruise Port this morning.
In his welcoming remarks, Vice President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO) Nguyen Ngoc Hung emphasized the historical significance of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification on April 30 (1975 - 2025). According to Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Hung, this is a reminder of the resilient history of the Vietnamese people and an expression of gratitude for the valuable support from international friends. Reviewing Vietnam's outstanding achievements since the Doi Moi (Renovation) process, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Hung stated that Vietnam is increasingly affirming its position as a reliable and responsible member of the international community.
During the exchange program, domestic and international peace experts shared their perspectives, insights, understanding of the pain of war, and lessons learned from their work for peace, aiming for a nuclear-free world , promoting global understanding and cooperation; while also sending a message of solidarity and continued efforts to preserve peace to the younger generation.
On this occasion, the delegation of experts also visited the Museum to learn about the history, culture, and people of Quang Ninh .
The 2025 voyage departs from Yokohama (Japan) and Ha Long (Vietnam) is the fourth destination. The ship's arrival coincides with the anniversary of the Liberation of Southern Vietnam and the reunification of the country – a significant historical milestone symbolizing the Vietnamese people's aspiration for peace – creating a favorable opportunity for Vietnam to strengthen international cooperation, promote external information and people-to-people diplomacy; and showcase the image of Quang Ninh province and Vietnam as peace-loving, friendly, hospitable, and spreading a message of peace, cooperation, and development.
