This year, ninth-grade students will be the first to take the tenth-grade entrance exam under the new structure announced by the Department of Education and Training.

Changes to the 10th grade math exam.

Regarding the structure and sample exam for 10th grade mathematics, teacher Tran Tuan Anh from Thu Duc High School (Ho Chi Minh City) commented that purely essay-type math problems are similar to previous years, such as quadratic functions y = ax², quadratic equations and Vieta's theorem, plane geometry, etc.

The practical math problems have undergone changes in terms of the number of questions and problem types. According to the new structure, one practical math question has been removed. The practical math content now includes a section on probability and statistics.

The structure of the math exam follows the three knowledge areas clearly outlined in the 2018 General Education Program: geometry and measurement, numbers and algebra, and statistics and probability. The content requirements of the exam structure are suitable for expanding and enhancing these areas (three math areas) at the high school level.

"Overall, the exam structure was very clear in terms of content, transparently outlining the exam requirements. We were presented with an exam that was very equitable and essentially very clear in terms of content," said Mr. Tuan Anh.

The content of the literature exam is closely interconnected.

Regarding the structure of the 10th grade Vietnamese language exam, Master Tran Nguyen Tuan Huy, head of the Vietnamese language department at Tran Boi Co Secondary School (District 5, Ho Chi Minh City), commented that it is consistent with the learning objectives of the 2018 General Education Program.

The exam is clearly divided into sections, each with its own requirements. In this case, the exam includes a reading comprehension section, a literary essay writing section, and a social commentary essay writing section. The sections of the exam are designed to be closely linked, from reading comprehension to essay writing and finally the essay, helping students develop coherent thinking and demonstrate a deeper understanding of the issues.

In the reading comprehension section, the text can be literary texts or argumentative/informational texts, helping students practice their reading comprehension and analytical skills, and assess the form and content of a text. Using materials outside of textbooks helps students access diverse sources of information and develop skills in identification, analysis, and evaluation.

In the writing section, the requirement to create a literary argumentative essay helps students practice expressing ideas concisely and succinctly. It also allows students to express their emotions or analyze the content of the work, fostering independent thinking and creative individuality through the skills they have acquired.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training has announced the structure and sample exam questions for 10th grade to help 9th grade students prepare well for the new exam format of the 2018 General Education Program.

New feature in English: Two questions testing the ability to read dictionary annotations.

Regarding the structure of the English exam, teacher Tran Thi Van from Nguyen Du Secondary School (District 1) commented that the structure and number of questions in the sample exam are similar to last year. The knowledge level is divided as follows: Recognition accounts for 20%; comprehension accounts for 40%; and application accounts for 40%.

Specifically, the 2025 sample exam for 10th grade includes 40 questions, divided into 4 sections: Phonetics (questions 1-4); vocabulary, grammar, and communication (questions 5-16); reading comprehension (questions 17-28); and writing (questions 29-40).

However, the 2025 exam will include two new questions on writing appropriate phrases based on given information. These two new questions aim to test the ability to read dictionary annotations to find linguistic information and apply knowledge.
