Young people visit Hoa Lo Prison to better understand the value of peace.

During the April 30th - May 1st holiday, the Hoa Lo Prison historical site (Hanoi) saw a significant increase in visitors, the majority of whom were young people.

According to reporters from the newspaper Tin Tuc va Dan Toc, the exhibition spaces and experiential areas at the historical site are always bustling with people, creating a lively, solemn, and moving atmosphere.

Once considered a "hell on earth" where political prisoners and revolutionary fighters were held during the resistance war, Hoa Lo Prison has now become a Special National Historical Monument, a significant site for educating future generations about patriotic and revolutionary traditions.

Large crowds of locals and tourists lined up in front of the Hoa Lo Prison historical site ( Hanoi ) during the April 30th - May 1st holiday.

Many children lined up in an orderly fashion under the fluttering red flags with yellow stars as they visited Hoa Lo Prison.

The space recreates scenes of prisoner confinement, evoking memories of those difficult but resilient days.

The heavy, sturdy iron door symbolizes the harsh regime of confinement in colonial prisons.

Visitors were moved and stopped in front of the image of revolutionary female soldier Nguyen Thi Quang Thai, one of the people who were once imprisoned at Hoa Lo Prison.

Hoa Lo Prison is a poignant testament to a period of history filled with hardship but also unwavering resilience. The cold stone walls, the old iron bars, along with the artifacts and stories of the steadfast prisoners, still evoke feelings of emotion and pride in every visitor.

Instead of choosing distant travel destinations, many young people stay in Hanoi to "travel back in time," exploring and gaining a deeper understanding of the past on their own.

The scene depicts confinement in solitary confinement cells, reflecting the harshness of the prison regime.

The exhibits and documentary images on display help to authentically recreate the lives and fighting spirit of the imprisoned revolutionary fighters.

It was moving to watch the reenactment of the scene where revolutionary prisoners were held in the "hell on earth" of Hoa Lo prison in the past.

Nguyen Thanh Hoai, a student at the Diplomatic Academy, shared: “Visiting Hoa Lo Prison on April 30th was very moving for me. This place helped me better understand the value of independence, freedom, and peace.”

Not only students, but many families also bring their children to visit, helping the young ones feel the spirit of patriotism through authentic stories. Ms. Nguyen Hoang Anh (Hoang Mai Ward, Hanoi) said: “By bringing my children here, I want them to know the hardships and sacrifices that our ancestors went through to achieve the peace we have today...”.

Young people are moved when they learn about the sacrifices and losses made during the wars to defend the homeland.

Young people bowed their heads in remembrance, expressing their gratitude to the spirits of the revolutionary soldiers at the Hoa Lo Prison historical site.

During major holidays like April 30th and May 1st, the historical site welcomes thousands of visitors, including many groups of students and young people from Hanoi. They come here not only to sightsee but also to pay tribute and reflect on the glorious past of the nation.

From a former "hell on earth," Hoa Lo Prison has today become a symbol of indomitable spirit, a special historical and cultural landmark in the heart of Hanoi.
