As a tertiary care hospital, the Provincial General Hospital regularly receives serious accident cases requiring emergency care and surgery. Many cases of serious injuries, such as penetrating heart wounds, severed limbs, severed tendons, broken arms and legs, etc., are caused by work accidents, domestic accidents or fights.

On the evening of September 15, 2025, patient SVT (33 years old, Cua Ong ward) was stabbed in the 5th intercostal space, next to the left sternum, the wound was about 1cm long. The patient was taken to the emergency room at Cam Pha Regional General Hospital and transferred to the Provincial General Hospital for emergency surgery.

Identifying this as a case of hemorrhagic shock due to a particularly critical penetrating heart wound, as soon as the information was received, the Board of Directors of the Provincial General Hospital directed the activation of the "Red Alert" procedure, urgently mobilizing the cardiovascular - thoracic, anesthesia, and artificial heart-lung surgery teams; at the same time, preparing the cardiac operating room, equipment, and blood reserves for emergency treatment. The patient was transferred directly to the operating room, and the teams coordinated both resuscitation and emergency surgery. The patient was set up on a heart-lung machine to assist the surgeon in repairing the heart damage. After opening the sternum, the surgeon discovered a chest wall wound that penetrated the pericardium into the right ventricle, about 1cm long, and was bleeding. The pericardial cavity contained about 250ml of blood clots and diluted blood. The surgical team sutured the right ventricle wound, stopped the bleeding, and placed a pericardial drain. After nearly 4 hours of tension, the surgery went smoothly. The patient was treated and discharged.

At the end of September 2025, doctors at Bai Chay Hospital successfully performed microsurgery to reattach a nearly severed finger for patient HQH (24 years old, Hoanh Bo ward) who had a work accident. The patient's left hand had 4 fingers (from fingers II to V) complicatedly crushed. The patient was indicated for emergency surgery to treat bone and soft tissue damage and preserve the limb before the risk of amputation. The surgical team of Master, Doctor Lam Thanh Hai (Deputy Head of the Department of Orthopedics) performed debridement, tissue cleaning, correction and fusion of the bones of the fingers; the surgical team of Doctor Cao Duc Manh (Head of the Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery Unit) performed microsurgery to reconnect the vessels and nerves of fingers III and IV.

After surgery, the blood vessels supplying fingers III and IV circulate well, the finger buds are pink, the tone is tense, and the extremities are warm. According to Dr. Cao Duc Manh, injuries or wounds on the hand account for a high percentage of injuries caused by work accidents and domestic accidents and have many different forms of injuries such as: skin tears, tendon tears, blood vessel and nerve tears, closed or open fractures, hand crushing wounds or severed hands and fingers. With severed or nearly severed limbs, the application of microvascular and neurosurgery, an extremely sophisticated technique of modern surgery, has ensured the reattachment of severed fingers and hands with a high success rate that could not be performed successfully with conventional surgical techniques before.

At the same time, at Dong Trieu Medical Center, a complicated emergency surgery caused by a traffic accident was performed with the support of doctors from Vietnam - Sweden Uong Bi Hospital. Female patient NTH (37 years old, Dong Trieu ward) was admitted to the hospital in a state of drowsiness, rapid pulse, unmeasurable blood pressure, ultrasound showed a complicated liver rupture, severe hemorrhagic shock. Immediately upon receiving the information, the Board of Directors of Vietnam - Sweden Uong Bi Hospital sent Dr. Vu Duc Thu (Head of the Department of Digestive and General Surgery) to directly support the surgery. During the surgery, the doctors discovered a complicated liver rupture, with more than 2 liters of blood clots and unclotted blood in the abdomen. The surgery lasted nearly 3 hours, and the doctors successfully stopped the bleeding, helping the patient overcome the critical stage. After intensive resuscitation, the patient continued to be transferred to Vietnam - Sweden Uong Bi Hospital for intensive treatment.

The causes of accidents in daily life, work, and traffic are mainly due to carelessness and subjectivity. Workers do not comply with machine operating procedures, do not wear protective gear; drivers speed, overtake recklessly, and use alcohol; in daily life, just because of small conflicts, scuffles and fights occur, causing serious injuries. Many victims are hospitalized with multiple injuries, crushed limbs, ruptured internal organs, and even life-threatening conditions.

Doctors recommend that to prevent accidents, everyone needs to raise awareness of protecting themselves and the community. When discovering an accident victim, people around need to stay calm, provide first aid, bandage the wound, and quickly take the victim to the nearest medical facility to minimize damage and unfortunate incidents.
