“The first time I saw the photo series, I was really touched and proud,” said Nguyen Thu Ha, a first-year student of the English Department at the University of Foreign Languages (University of Danang). The young girl said she changed her phone wallpaper to a photo of the Su-30MK2 formation flying over the 68-story Bitexco building, a new symbol of Ho Chi Minh City, a moment she considered “a symbol of the past and present blending together.”
Unable to travel to Ho Chi Minh City to watch the April 30 parade, Ha chose to follow the event on TV and social media. Ha said the photo series helped her clearly feel the pride, efforts and sacrifices of her fathers and grandfathers to achieve today's peace . "Every time I turn on my phone or computer, I get more motivation to study and live a more positive life," the young girl said.
Not only Ha, many other young people also expressed their emotions when seeing the photo series "Giua troi quang vinh" by photographer Nguyen Khanh Vu Khoa. Choosing the photo capturing the moment when two fighter jets flew under the red flag with a yellow star as his phone wallpaper, Tran Van Huy (21 years old, Thanh Khe district) shared: "Just one photo, but I feel like the Fatherland is flying up. Looking at it, I remember the heroic history pages I once studied, and understand more clearly the responsibility of today's young generation". As a student majoring in mechanical engineering, Huy is especially interested in aviation technology, national defense strength and said he spent many hours learning more about the Su-30MK2, a modern, multi-role fighter jet that Vietnam is using to protect its sovereignty over its airspace and seas.
With its emotional expression, the photo series “Giua troi quang vinh” has gone beyond the usual photographic value and has become an inspirational material for young people when recording the soft but powerful flight paths of the fighter squadron of the Vietnam Air Defense - Air Force performing in the sky of Ho Chi Minh City on the morning of April 30. The photo series includes more than 20 photos with the caption “Giua troi quang vinh” taken by the author from many different angles and compositions, creating impressive slices, connecting the heroic spirit of the flight formation and the modern life moving below.
There are photos that make viewers “hold their breath” because of the balance, such as the image of helicopters flying in a 4-3-4 formation carrying the hammer and sickle flag and the red flag with a yellow star fluttering in the sky of the city. Or the poetic moment when two fighter jets lean through the clouds, with the red flag with a yellow star below. Some photos are adjusted to a cold tone to increase the contrast between the sky and the body of the aircraft, creating the feeling that the entire formation is “tearing the wind”, rushing with speed and power that makes viewers admire.
Initially, the photo series “Giua troi quang vinh” was shared by Mr. Khoa in the group “Viet Nam oi” and on his personal Facebook, attracting thousands of interactions and hundreds of messages and comments asking for the original photos as phone and computer wallpapers. To spread these heroic moments, he decided to choose 18 images of Mi-Su30 and Yak130 aircraft, convert them to phone and computer wallpapers and share them completely free of charge. Many opinions said that the photo series has aroused patriotism, solidarity and awareness of preserving sacred values in the hearts of viewers.
Photographer Vu Khoa said he started taking photos out of personal passion, but it was his love for his homeland and country that made him persistently pursue topical, historical, and landscape topics... "I believe that every beautiful moment, if recorded at the right time and in the right way, can become a collective memory, something that, when we look back in the future, we will tell ourselves that we once lived in a proud moment," he confided.
In the modern life, when young people are often caught up in the flow of technology and social media trends, a photo series like “Giua troi quang vinh” has become a spiritual support, reminding them of their national roots. There is no need for too many appeals, because those spirited images themselves tell the story of faith, patriotism and aspiration to rise up.
