Besides studying hard to achieve high results in the high school graduation exam, Duong Ngoc Dieu Minh, a student of class 12D2, as well as many other students of Dong Ha High School, feel quite worried and anxious when considering choosing a suitable career. Making a decision at this stage is relatively important because it can directly affect the students' future path. Understanding this, recently, Dong Ha High School has proactively implemented counseling activities with practical content.
Right from the beginning of the school year, the school board has developed a detailed career guidance education plan. In parallel with instructing teachers to integrate orientation into experiential lessons, allowing students to self-assess and analyze their own abilities and strengths, thereby choosing a suitable career, the school also coordinates with organizations, universities and colleges to organize career counseling and guidance sessions.
The consultation sessions not only provide information about careers, the consulting team also helps students understand their interests, abilities as well as labor market trends, thereby providing a basis for making appropriate choices.
Student Dieu Minh shared: “Through the counseling and career guidance activities organized by the school, students were informed of new regulations, teachers and seniors shared experiences, and had their questions answered. We were also analyzed, helped to see ourselves, recognize our strengths and weaknesses, and from there, accurately choose the career that we are capable of. For 12th grade students, career guidance is very important, helping us choose a career that is suitable for ourselves and the needs of society.”
Principal of Dong Ha High School Ta Thi Thu Hien said: Dong Ha High School always attaches importance to career counseling and guidance for students. In particular, in 2025 - a year with many changes in the admission methods for universities and colleges - the school has proactively developed plans and implemented career orientation for students right from the beginning of the school year. At the same time, it has strengthened coordination with parents to help students clearly perceive and choose a career wisely, both suitable for their own abilities and keeping up with the development trends of the times.
“Through a preliminary survey of 12th grade students, we found that over 70% of students want to apply for admission to universities and colleges. This is an important basis for the school to be able to implement career counseling and orientation for students more effectively. To achieve this goal, the school has applied many diverse forms of counseling, including: direct counseling during class activities through homeroom teachers; integrating career guidance content into flag-raising ceremonies and other subjects; actively coordinating with many universities and colleges to organize counseling, helping students have more necessary information,” said Ms. Hien.
At Huong Phung High School, Huong Hoa District, career counseling and guidance for students is implemented right from when they enter grade 10. Accordingly, from the beginning of the school year, the school has conducted surveys of students in all grades, closely combining with reviewing learning outcomes to provide useful advice in choosing a subject combination suitable to each student's abilities and interests.
In addition, the school actively cooperates with many organizations and universities to provide in-depth career counseling and guidance sessions for students. These activities help students gain a clearer understanding of the requirements and development trends of the labor market, thereby building motivation and a positive learning attitude, with clear goals.
According to the Principal of Huong Phung High School, Nguyen Huu Thinh, career guidance experience activities are a compulsory subject in the 2018 General Education Program. Through these activities, students have the opportunity to objectively assess and self-assess their abilities, strengths and interests in different career fields. This is an important basis for them to confidently choose a suitable career and proactively practice the necessary qualities and abilities to adapt well to their future careers.
“For grade 12 students, in addition to guiding them to complete their application for admission to universities and colleges, the school board also closely directs homeroom teachers and subject teachers to provide career guidance appropriate to each student’s abilities, trying to minimize pressure on them during this important “final” stage,” Mr. Thinh shared.
Not only Dong Ha High School or Huong Phung High School, career counseling and guidance activities for students have been implemented at all high schools in the province, starting from grade 10 and lasting throughout 3 school years.
Early career orientation brings many advantages, helping students have more time to equip themselves with knowledge for the subjects in the chosen combination, learn more about their favorite profession and make the decision that best suits their abilities and strengths.
Besides orientation based on personal interests and abilities, understanding labor market trends also plays an important role in the career selection process.
The high school graduation exam is approaching, so career orientation and focused review are very important for grade 12 students.
Schools and all levels and sectors are promoting consulting and support activities, helping students understand their abilities and interests to choose suitable careers. Thereby, it also creates motivation for them to study hard, preparing a solid foundation for the road ahead.
