Besides striving for high scores in the high school graduation exam, Duong Ngoc Dieu Minh, a student in class 12D2, like many other students at Dong Ha High School, feels quite worried and anxious about choosing a suitable career. Making this decision at this stage is crucial as it can directly impact their future. Understanding this, Dong Ha High School has proactively implemented career counseling activities with practical content.
From the beginning of the school year, the school administration developed a detailed career guidance plan. In parallel with directing teachers to integrate career guidance into experiential lessons, allowing students to assess and analyze their own abilities and strengths to choose a suitable career, the school also collaborated with organizations, universities, and colleges to organize career counseling and guidance sessions.
Counseling sessions not only provide information about career paths, but the counseling team also helps students understand their interests, abilities, and job market trends, thereby providing a basis for making suitable choices.
Diệu Minh shared: “Through career counseling and guidance activities organized by the school, students have been informed about new regulations, received advice and answers to their questions from teachers and senior students. We also received analysis and guidance to help us understand ourselves, recognize our strengths and weaknesses, and thus choose a career that suits us. For 12th-grade students, career guidance is very important, helping us choose a profession that suits us and the needs of society.”
According to Ms. Ta Thi Thu Hien, Principal of Dong Ha High School: Dong Ha High School always prioritizes career counseling and guidance for students. Especially in 2025 – a year with many changes in the admission methods for universities and colleges – the school has proactively developed a plan and implemented career orientation for students from the beginning of the school year. At the same time, we are strengthening cooperation with parents to help students clearly understand and make wise career choices that are both suitable for their abilities and keep up with the trends of the times.
“Through a preliminary survey of 12th-grade students, we found that over 70% of students want to apply to universities and colleges. This is an important basis for the school to implement career counseling and guidance more effectively. To achieve this goal, the school has applied many diverse forms of counseling, including: direct counseling during class activities through homeroom teachers; integrating career guidance content into flag-raising ceremonies and other subjects; and actively coordinating with many universities and colleges to organize counseling sessions, helping students gain more necessary information,” Ms. Hien said.
At Huong Phung High School in Huong Hoa district, career counseling and guidance for students is implemented from the moment they enter 10th grade. Accordingly, from the beginning of the school year, the school conducts surveys of students in all grade levels, closely combining this with an assessment of their academic performance to provide useful advice in choosing subject combinations that suit each student's abilities and interests.
In addition, the school actively collaborates with various organizations and universities to provide in-depth career counseling and guidance sessions for students. These activities help students gain a clearer understanding of the requirements and development trends of the labor market, thereby building motivation and a positive attitude towards learning, with clear goals to strive for.
According to Nguyen Huu Thinh, Principal of Huong Phung High School, career guidance activities are a compulsory subject in the 2018 General Education Program. Through these activities, students have the opportunity to objectively assess and self-assess their abilities, strengths, and interests in various career fields. This is an important foundation for them to confidently choose a suitable profession and proactively cultivate the necessary qualities and skills to adapt well to their future careers.
"For 12th-grade students, in parallel with guiding them in completing their university and college application forms, the school's administration also closely directs homeroom teachers and subject teachers to provide career guidance that suits each student's abilities, trying to minimize pressure on them during this crucial 'final push' period," Mr. Thinh shared.
Career counseling and guidance for students has been implemented not only at Dong Ha High School or Huong Phung High School, but also at all high schools in the province, starting from grade 10 and continuing throughout the three years of high school.
Early career guidance offers many advantages, giving students more time to acquire knowledge in the subjects of their chosen combination, delve deeper into their preferred profession, and make decisions that best suit their abilities and strengths.
Besides choosing a career path based on personal interests and abilities, understanding labor market trends also plays a crucial role in the career selection process.
The high school graduation exam is approaching, so career guidance and focused exam preparation are very important for 12th-grade students.
Schools and various levels of government are stepping up their efforts to provide counseling and support, helping students understand their abilities and interests so they can choose suitable careers. This also motivates them to study hard and prepare a solid foundation for the future.
